King Arms Troy RAS
Hey,
Ehobby asia has the 7" TROY ras on sale right now: http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/accessori...m4-series.html However, it doesn't look like it includes the barrel nut and clamp. http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...l?prodID=27172 vs http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...l?prodID=22323 Are these available separately? I really like the TROY A3 (7"), but only the A5 with the 10" RAS is available. Is a 7" handguard a more typical length (compared to the 10")?

The first one linked doesn't have a barrel nut included, it's like standard M4 handguards which just use the d-ring and holder fastened to the triangle sight.
The second one is free float and doesn't attach at the front anywhere. |

So if I got the A5 which includes the barrel nut and is free float (essentially the 10" one), could I then buy the 7" rail set to replace the 10"?

No. The 7" MRF-DI is a Drop-In replacement for the regular M4 handguard or RIS/RAS. It mounts the same way.
The 10" MRF-MX or 7" MRF-C are free floating setups which require a clamp that attaches the rail to the barrel nut (and houses a spring loaded pin for the removable bottom panel). It requires a bare barrel nut (no spring and no delta ring) and doesn't use the front end cap. Unless you meant buying an MRF-C to replace an MRF-MX, then yes, they all use the same mounting system.

Ah thanks for the clarification.

the free floating ones are very solid, I recommend them over the traditional drop in design.

I have the 7" and 10" ones, the whole upper feels like one big solid slab. All the goodness of a freefloating setup while retaining the ability to mount an M203.

Well, you can still use an RIS-mount M203 on any rails.

True, but I meant the regular mount. (never liked the RIS one, hangs too low. plus on a not-overly-secure TM-style bottom RIS it always felt like the M203 could fall at any given moment)
