RRV with bells and whisles.
I'm looking to build an RRV plate carrier. I really like the basic desing but I wish to add a rear plate carrier and a cummerbund.
I'm kinda new to this kind of gear, as I was a full molle armor guy before and I want a new, lighter kit to support my new upcomming project. Can anyone suggest and mainly name what I need? I don't even know how things are properly called and who make what. I looked at Eagle Industries and Flyye. But I can't find the "add on".

This is what you need, the RRV itself :
http://triadtactical.com/?mainURL=%2...tem_id%3D2jrsp The rear plate carrier : http://triadtactical.com/?mainURL=%2...tem_id%3D2jrpe As far as a cummberbund on that I know there is one out there but it's rare as hell and part of the RLCS kit if I'm not mistaken. I don't suggest it though since the RRV by itself covers a lot and most operators that uses it will have a PACA underneath it to cover their sides.

I just picked up the pantac rvv, and hydration/backpack add on that connects perfectly to the rrv itself. The quality is great, and seems to win in reviews against the flyye rrv. I'd say most guys who own the hydration add on will say its one of the most regularly used pieces of kit they have.

I have a hard time seeing the cummerbund being useful, there's only about 15cm of open space with no MOLLE on either side (and I'm fatter than you, too, FOX). The whole reason I like the setup is because I don't feel all Michelin Man but retain lots of MOLLE real estate.
If you're really keen on having a setup with an optional cummerbund, go for the plate carrier instead: Unless you really want the ability to use it as a chest rig, too. But the PANTAC one isn't comfortable at all as a chest rig (I've tried a real Eagle RRV and it wasn't a problem, so it really is the foam PANTAC used. I'm working on a full review.)

Tanx for the tips and links. With those better pictures, I now see that I don't need the cummerbund now. I had the impression the side flaps where not going far enough on the sides. Since I plan on carrying more than 2 mag pouches on the front, I need the side room for more.
I also need the back plate + the ability to use a 3 day pack. I guesse I'll go genuine, since the pantac replica is a little strange with the back plate carrier. Unless they showed it badly assembled.

Yeah...it looked like it wasn't put together right.
I was recently looking at the same thing. I've got a Blackhawk RRV and wanted some back protection for indoor CQB. A nice light/trim setup. I was told by my gear slut teammate to get the back panel of the MBSS (basically the Pantac piece in the link) and it'd hook right in. I might still do that but then I got to thinking of these two options (which I have all the gear for already). 1. Just use my small hydration carrier/knapsack. It'd cover 80% of my back, be removable and then I don't need to alter my RRV outdoors setup (although there a lot of pouches on it) 2. Dig out my Pantac Weesatch (wasatch?) and just strip off all the pouches. The internal pouches are more than sufficient for indoor CQB, it comes with a back panel and I put foam plates in to simulate armour, and I put a couple of grenade pouches on the front. I ended up (at least for now) setting up an outdoor rig (RRV/knapsack) and an indoor rig (stripped down weesatch). I really hate fiddling with my rigs endlessly reconfiguring the pouches for indoor CQB vs. field games. |

I know the feeling. My current setup is my custom reversible armored vest. Everytime I want a black vest or an OD vest, I have to strip the whole thing, flip it, rearange the SAPI plates and put the matching molle pouches on it. Take about 30 minutes. My fingers hurt after.

Forget that! Buy another rig! (unless you like playing with your gear)
I was also thinking of a replica paca and one of those "go-plates" that just has enough MOLLE room for 2x M4 pouches (I'd just reuse some extra double M4 pouches that I have for a total of 5 mags...4 on the rig and 1 in the gun). It's smaller than a MOLLE leg panel with just one strap around the neck and one around the waist. I think it's meant for patrol guys and/or vehicle guys. Most of our CQB stuff is over with in 2-3 mags....then reset. I would just load up all my mags and swap out empties for fulls from a gear bag. It'd be a nice light setup...but I'd end up buying more stuff. I'll go with what I've got for now. |

I hate those little plate carrier. Sure in a veh. it would be nice to just have that, but for a door kicker, it's not realistic.
With all my rigs, I need to be able to go prone and/or pass trough small spaces like a partially closed door. For the rest, it's mission specific. I'll be buying a PACA armor soon. I just have to decide wich one I want. I need an OD one with removable fake armor and they are rare. I want to put my own armor and plate in it. But I need the fake one as a template.
