Alarming development in NY

I don't know if there was a thread here a month ago when this happened or not. I tried to find one but could not. If there was then delete this one.

Anyway, today I was on HSA and saw that they were having some "legal problems" with the State of New York. I did a little research and found that they were not raided or anything, but that a general law banning replicas in NYS that had been ignored was now going to be enforced. Apparently the NY Attorney General has issued cease and desist orders to 100 companies telling them not to ship black(realistic) guns to NYS.

I guess HeadlessChicken's signature Carlin quote is more apt than ever.

Related to this is a Long Island man threatening cops with "a realistic toy uzi". It doesn't specifically state that it was an airsoft gun, but it doesn't matter. The sport we love is hurt by this.

Here is an article: http://www.newsday.com/long-island/s...shot-1.1352056

Also a small NY Daily News story here: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_c...shot_dead.html

As I recall (it may have changed since), NY City has a ban on them (or they need to be clear or bright plastic, basically like us). NY state use to allow them, but they were considered firearms and had to be treated as firearms in terms of purchase and possession (sorta like what a lot of people want for Canada), but they were technically legal.

Who knows what was going through the guy's mind. It shows that minors are not the only problem demographic when it comes to the misuse of airsoft and/or airguns. The article didn't specifically say it was an airsoft or airgun but did mention that "The replica gun did not have an orange cap on the barrel, as required by state and federal law". Whether or not it was 1 of our toys, it still has an ill-effect on our sport.

Maybe if some states in the US bans black bodies guns, more and more companies will start investing in making some higher quality clearsoft, giving us more possibilities.

That's utterly ridiculous. I'd never wish bad things to happen to my neighbor just so I'd get some meager crap out of it.

NY City has a ban on them thats more or less active. Some of the borough has the same problem. Rest of NY is fine.

New York is not my neighbor... neither is yours...

but anyways, I just meant that there could be something positive out of it since there is nothing else we can do about it.

How is that ridiculous? It's not hoping something bad will happen, it's saying if something bad does happen, then maybe something positive can come out of it.

How many times do you see the pictures in the papers here, where the "guns" seized or turned in to police are actually toys, bb guns or replicas. The down side to any bad press is that it hurts the sport, and limits the access to those out there who are minding our own business.

More "Mayor David Miller" types start jumping up and down about gun control and bans. We all pay for it one way or another - taxes or limited access!

It's a shame.
