Project Halo

YouTube - B.o.E Combat Airsoft Night Operations April 25th 2009

After seeing this video on a recent Airsoft Canada post I thought why don't I try to create my own tracer system that I can use on any airsoft gun?

So I began working on 'Project Halo' which is a DIY tracer unit built into a GEMTECH HALO silencer. These silencers are great for being able to attach over top of just about any flash hider. You could purchase a G&P Tracer Magazine or one of the new Tokyo Marui Tracer Units. However if you're on a budget then why not make your own?

So these are some early pictures of the unit. It is constructed out of a Garity LED flashlight. I found that the LED array in this flashlight has one center LED that I was able to remove and drill a 1/4" hole right down the center without causing issues to the rest of the array. I have managed to rebuild the flashlight body to house the array and the push button switch. I have yet to complete the installation of the battery pack. When complete it should all fit inside the silencer and be contained in a manner as to not interfere with passing BB's.

Initial tests of the tracer unit are quite promising. After putting a full magazine of tracer rounds through my CA M15 CQB Seal, BB's seem to be illuminating really well. This device has a permanent on switch but with 3 AAA batteries it should last at least 10 hours. The unit is installed and removed as required in the field. Once the project is complete I will post final pictures and video.
