The original AI one was metal, I bought mine a year or 2 ago. It is amazing.. No idea why they switched to plastic. I guess its less expensive and easier to have made.

In repeated testing, the plastic V5 AI adaptor has shown to be much more resilient to falls and other breakages than any of the previous metal versions. Cheaper, lighter, and stronger.

I primarily use the AI plastic one because it's easier on the valves than metal, but I keep a Madbull metal one on hand just in case. I've had 2 AI plastic ones break so far. Once the propane cannister fell about 12 inches, snapping the nozzle. The second time, the nozzle split up the side as I was filling my mag. Not sure wtf happened there. It was almost new (replacement for my previously dropped one) when this happened. Surprised the shit out of me, really.

So yeah, I'm all for AI, but want a metal backup just in case...

My mags have o-rings in the valves. Metal adapters make the o-rings pop out (and get lost since they are so freaking tiny). That renders the mag useless. I might try AI's plastic one to see if it makes a difference.

Only thing I came up with was this:

Quote:
PLEASE NOTE: It has been observed that the Mad Bull adapter does not work correctly with off brand propane tanks. Therefore we only recommend using Coleman propane tanks with the Mad Bull propane adapter.
From here
