G36 Needs some work
Ok, so I'm planning on doing some work on my CA36 over the winter. It has a major consistancy issue that needs correcting. The FPS is consistant around 315.. it's the accuracy that's all over the place. Hop-up isn't bad for consistancy, left-to right accuracy is crap.
Unfortunetly, noone makes a 494mm tightbore that doesn't suck ass, so I can't put one of those in. I know the gun needs a new piston and tappet plate (both are showing wear). I'm also planning on upping the FPS to around 350-360-ish, the gun already has a Guarder spring guide. What else should I look at doing to make it a consistant shooting gun? Planned (all of these are still stock at around 25,000 rounds): New Piston New Tappet New Hopup rubber Thanks

Drill out the bore of your flash hider and stick a 509mm tightbore in. That's what I ended up doing.

IF needed, buy a long tightbore and visit a machine shop or better yet gun shop, have them turn it SLOW, not fast, and cut it at the length you need. Most places won't charge $50 to do it.

1-Tightbore in 509mm (drill the flash hider¸)
2-Nozzle (I recomend Prometheus') 3-Piston head 4-Cylinder head 5-If you don't already have a bearing piston head and spring guide, at least one of them with bearing. No need to have both on bearings. 6-Clean the barrel carefully (dry clean) 7-Use mid weight silicon oil to soak all o-rings in the system (nozzle, cyl., piston head etc.) I use 40wt as a good weight. |

Thanks for the suggestions!

Another question here, are modify pistons any good? I keep reading mixed reports of most piston types out there. Mine is showing enough wear that it needs replacing.

Sorry to bump this, but I'd read somewhere that the Classic Army G36 nozzel is actually different from the TM one. I don't have a TM G36 to compare to, can anyone confirm/deny this?

Modify parts are awesome for their price. I only use their pistons now in my guns and also those of my clients.

I'd err on the side of caution and get a Prometheus air nozzle.

A Modify air-seal nozzle might be better. They worked terrifically in every AEG I saw with one.

Not really.
Modify's a good brand, but their G36 nozzle doesn't accurately reflect the stock nozzle configuration of CA36. Modify G36 nozzle is just a tube, Prometheus G36 nozzle actually has the indexing features of the stock G36 nozzle.

Promtheus nozzles are great. Use a 509 and drill. Don't forget to change your hop up bucking. I have had good luck with the Madbull Sharkfin buckings...which seems to help the nasty G36 habit of double feeding . A 110 spring should put you where you want to be fps wise...
I have used a lot of AREA 1000 parts lately (Systema generic parts) and had good luck with them..very reasonably priced. For spring guides, pistons, piston heads, cylinders and cylinder heads I have had no problems. Be careful if you change cylinder heads as there are a couple of different types out there and they may not fit in your version of mechbox. There is a regular V3 version as well as a "notched" V3 version out there. I have had issues closing some mech boxes with the notched type (which also seems to have a shorter nozzle projection. Anyway...just my 2 cents worth...hope this helps |

Thanks all for the info. I just placed the order for the following parts:
Mad Bull 6.03mm Tightbore Barrel - 509mm Modify Polycarbonate Piston - Full Teeth Modify Enhanced Tappet - V3 Modify Enhanced Cylinder Head - V3 (Except AUG) Modify S110 AEG Upgrade Spring Prometheus Air Seal Nozzle G36C I wasn't too worried about the piston head at the moment since the one I have still gets a great seal and I have a bearing spring guide anyway (same with the hop-up, current one still works fine). Hopefully this will put my shot-to-shot consistancy back up to acceptable levels.
