WE 1911 upgrade spring problem

Hey guys,

So I got a WE 1911 and it works fantastically.

I bought an Airsoft Surgeon 140% upgrade kit and installed the new O-ring, the recoil spring but not the hammer spring (need more time to dismantle the gun completely)

Now, the spring is way too long, I guess thats what gives it a lot of its power, so it fits in the gun with a tight squeeze and makes the action crisp and strong.

However, because of the spring, the slide catch doesn't activate well (or at all) when an empty mag is inside the gun. So, when I shoot a mag, it just keeps shooting until there is no more gas...

The original spring works fine and the gun locks back when empty. Do I need to like compress the spring more or something? or do I need to cut it shorter then re-coil it back into shape?

Actually,

ive noticed something...

I don't think its the spring's fault... it might be the O-ring.

Heres why I think its the o-ring...when I installed the new one (the old one was metal, the new one is plastic) the gas tube would sometimes stay forward instead of springing back with the slide.

Could be that it stays forward, keeping the slide from locking back...

I don't know, it seems plausible.

EDIT

On second thought, It seems to be more of a spring problem since it locks back more when I use the original spring.

It could also be the slide locks problem, i dont know...but i made sure it is well lubricated.

with the spring so much stronger, it's probably not allowing the slide to move all the way back to lock. will shoot auto like with rounds in mag.

I've never done it or know if it's suggested but I don't see any problem with cutting a coil off at a time to lessen the strength of the spring.

First mistake is not installing the hammer spring. Of course it won't work correctly if the gun isn't getting enough gas with the upgraded recoil spring in there.

I'm not familiar with the spring itself, but when you rack the slide are you able to bring it back far enough to engage the catch? If no, you have a short recoil spring and that's actually the designed function.

The spring, although long, still allows the gun to function normally.

I can rack the slide and lock it (it usually does, just sometimes it doesn't, but always locks with the original spring).

I was unaware that the hammer spring would have any affect on the gas mechanism....it could be that if it does affect it.

My next step is to install it, if it still persists I guess i'll just cut the spring a tad.

How do you think the gas is let out of the mag?
The hammer.
How do you think the power of the hammer is affected?
I'll let you figure that one out.

Styrak do you always have to be a fucking douchebag when you answer?

From what I remember reading, a stronger hammer spring is more important for releasing the valve when using a higher pressure gas. A high flow valve should make much more of a difference in gas flow.

Illusion should know best about this, I suggest you PM him, Combine.

How is that being a douchebag? I gave him 2 straight answers. Didn't mean it to have any negative vibe.

The problem could be a combination of two things. WE guns tend to have a weak magazine spring from day one, wich is what pushes the slide catch up. If you install a stronger recoil spring, the slide is thrown forward faster and doesn't have enough "hangtime" for the weak spring in the mag to push the catch up fast enough. As an experiment, try lifting the bottom of the mag spring up with a small screwdriver past the loading hole a drop 2-3 bbs' under it to give it a little more tention. You will reduce your mag capacity, but if it works at least you'll know what the problem is.I would also install the hammer spring before anything else as it could simply not be blowing the slide back far enough. If they came in a set, the're meant to be used together for a reason. What was wrong with the stock springs by the way? WEs' do have a tendancy to break slides and spring plugs so I'm not to sure what your hoping to gain by throwing stronger springs in it. Good luck either way.

I want a powerful gun.

And indeed this gun is fucking powerful now, its almost scary when you shoot it inside.

Its that loud and powerful, I actually have to deal with recoil. Its also very precise.

I'll try doing that with the mag springs.

Theres also a mod on youtube, search WE 1911 mag mod and its a guy putting a homemade extra piece to make it lock better i think.

I need to find a good picture of where the hammer spring is when i dismantle it.

I suggest you look up the other threads on the WE 1911 for suggestions on preventing recoil spring cap/bushing/slide damage.

The stronger recoil spring should actually help towards preventing that.

One of the problems with the slide catch lever is some material on the rear-facing side, which catches on the spring-loaded pin; filing it clean will help the slide actually being able to lock.
