ESS Goggles "Warning" ... What the hell?

Hey guys...

Just bought those awesome ESS Goggles and took the instruction booklet to find out that the very last words in it are: "Do not use in the sports of paintball or airsoft."

...What the hell? This can protect from a 12 gauge shotgun blast but not a 400 FPS .20 bb? Can someone explain to me?

I own a pair and I do not recall reading that line. :|

They are ansi rated. Should be fine.

Maybe it's that the company is not insured for it's use for the sports and thusly can't advocate the use of their product for them?

ESS is actually making an Airsoft goggle line complete with a dorky nose guard (they're not out yet). People have even had their orders canceled when they fill out the questionnaire and put "airsoft" as the use of the goggles...

The problem, as they see it, is that a BB can slip in between the plastic supports that are covered over with foam on their goggles, so they don't want them to be used for Airsoft since a BB can penetrate them.

...I got this information from a local player who is testing the ESS goggles they designed for Airsoft (and his feedback to them so far hasn't been good).

Hilarious though, that a 6mm pellet can compromise goggles rated for military use.

So much for shrapnel protection...

If a little 6mm can go through the border and sides of the goggle, I'd hate to see soldiers getting shot with AK rounds on the side of their goggles.

Ever been shot in the nose at close range?

You get dizzy, your face goes numb, and then in 20 minutes it hurts like a mother fucker.

At least you can close your mouth or wear a mouthguard to prevent tooth chipping, there's not much you can do to stop a shot to the nose without wearing a mask.

It's a soft plastic/rubber goggle and an ansi rated screen. It's shit would get ruined by such an impact.

The goggles are meant to stop fast moving, lightweight shrapnel.

I think he would loose part of his face regardless, even if it was going from the front since the goggles are only rated for .22LR.

I see it as them covering their ass for lawsuits. Like how Timmies coffee cops say "warning: contents extremely hot" even though any retard knows coffee is hot.

Never got shot, and never plan to shoot anyone in the head but it's better to feel the pain on the nose, than to loose a tooth or eye/eyes.
ESS should be focusing on more of the eyes part, not the face.

They're ANSI rated so they'll do fine. It's just they're not designed particularly for airsoft so ESS doesn't want to endorse using them for airsoft and having something happen which could land them in legal trouble.

Of course there is a risk. There is always a risk.

The product was not designed for the purpose you are looking to use it for.

It is well rated for the purpose you wish to use it for.

By using the product for a purpose it was not designed for, you as the user take responsibility for your actions, and cannot pursue legal actions against the company if it fails while doing so.

I don't know about the sides, but the top I see long lines... which can be opened up enough for a BB to get in.

I have the ESS NVG ones.
