What gaskmasks are safe to wear for eye protection? Rated?
http://www.dcfp.navy.mil/cbrd/ip/mcu2ap.htm
The U.S. Navy and I believe the German KSK both use this mask. I'm looking at a gasmask for headgear except that it says that it has a "single flexible lens" which leads me to believe it's not rated polycarbonate and thusly not safe. Are there any gasmasks with good lenses that would be usable for airsoft eye protection? This picture is of Honza of the Czech Republic in the themed german loadout thread. No, paintball approved goggles only. unless your local field says otherwise (bolle/ess.... etc)

I am looking for ANSI Z87.1-1989 rated gas masks or full face respirators. This has nothing to do with individual field requirements nor would I ever want to play at fields with the paintball approved only requirements.

There was a member who wore gas mask to a game, and it shot through the lense and the bb hit the corner of his eye? And there was some red ass bruise? Someone want to refresh on that story? The pics to it were pretty fleshy.

Ansi rated Z87.1-1989 polycarbonate lenses should be good though. |

Just because they say they can take a steel ball doesn't really mean they are ballistic approved. Besides... playing in a gasmask SUCKS! It's like running around all day in a sauna.... |

Oh, no, the plan is quite ingenius. I was going to rip the guts out. One with a gas hose will be replaced with hydration system, radio, and the gas filter will be replaced with a 60mm computer fan powered by 9V battery.

What you can do (and I know others who have), is replace the plastic/glass with something with the ability to take the shot (Lexan, etc). Ofcourse this is easier with old school circular peephole style gasmask rather than the entire face sheild style like you have shown. You best bet is to try and wear ballistic glasses under you mask.

How safe is the gasmask when the lenses are replaced with Lexan?

I'm positive you could modify an S10 mask to make it BB-proof, perhaps a pair of lexan lenses affixed with an extremely strong epoxy.
Why would you want to, though? It's not like we do room clearing with CS gas! Gas masks are hot and its like breathing through a goddamn straw.

If you make it work with an S10, PM me.

Right now I'm collecting a list of all the ones that are already ANSI impact rated so I don't have to find material to cut and install new lenses like I would have to with an S10. That's the only difficult part. Installing electronics like fan, radio, and a hydration straw into it would be quite easy. The filter is quite large and hollow inside.
