Autonomous Sentry Gun for Airsoft/Paintball.

Mods: Don't know if this is in the right section or not but please feel free to move it. If this is a repost, I apologize as I searched for autogun and Sentry.

This guy has been working on an auto-sentry gun that will eventually be able use and accept any weapon. Looks like it's a movement detection via webcam setup. It even comes in a sexy deployable case

First Video with what looks like a glock 17
YouTube - autofire test

Second video with a paintball marker
YouTube - Portable Autonomous Sentry demonstration

Looks like something that has a lot of potential.

funny how it asks "are still there" once the gun is out of ammo.

Reminds me of the movie Screamers, starring Peter Weller. Now what happens if the programming evolves and it truly becomes autonymous, ignoring even your IFF transmitters. "The horror. The horror..." Sorry, different movie...

That paintball remote unit has a lot of testing behing it, event the trampoline test After the bicycle test

Now, rig this with 2 twin linked C02 Mac 11 at 22 round per sec each, rig the CO2 and mag to have extended capacity. The ultimate area denial system

Would be clumsy to move. The engineer in me would said that to have the best response time (ie chance to lock on the target), you want the lighest AEG/GBB possible, so having a LMG with box mag would imply either a larger mount with bigger faster servo engine (more weight, less portable, more $) or go small, 2 Mac 11 with the CO2 and the BB being fed by two tubes (to reduce moving weight and increase autonomy) would be the best (or 2 G18C, or 93r).

The lighter the moving set up is, the faster your response time you get (and hit on target). Combine with maximum ROF, you have a portable Phalanx lol

Interesting but kinda useless for airsoft, IMO.

For one, it'll keep shooting people who are hit, meaning it's only a matter of time before your sentry gun encounters an irate player's boot.

Without any kind of AI, you can wave a leafy branch at it from behind cover until it happily expends all it's ammo.

It won't be usable in windy conditions, or it'll be shooting at all the foliage swaying in the breeze. Either that or you'll have to dial sensitivity down enough that it'll become possible to just slowly crawl up to it. (you could make it so it doesn't rely solely on movement by adding FLIR, but I don't think your pockets are that deep).

If it comes out in the middle of the day. chances are it has rabies. You need to get someone to trap that thing because if it bites you or a pet your screwed.
