New LifePO batteries

Anyone ever heard of these?

http://www.rsov.com/product/105_133/...k-4-split.html

Only 4 cells and it gives 12.8v of power, and the wiki link apparently says it's really safe. Don't blow up like Lipo until 800 degrees C

I'm on the verge of purchasing one, it's much cheaper than a Lipo and supposedly alot safer.

Anyone?

These are around since the LiPos...

The main problem of these batteries is that before 150-200 cycles, they are good for garbage. (they won't hold their charge)

Good LiPos can run 250-300 cycles, and have a much larger discharge rate.
As for safety, the only time I ever was a LiPo explode was intentional (ie wrong charger, overcharge etc.)

It is just like gasoline. Everyone know what is makes if you scratch a spark while filling your car... Still, this is the most used energy source for vehicules in the world.

We will use these on an electric car race
A123 lifepo4
http://www.rclipos.com/CoDocs/A123_26650.pdf

Max continuous discharge 70A
Pulse discharge at 10 sec 120A
Recommended fast charge current 10A to 3.6V CCCV, 15 min

You can hack them off dewalt packs, or buy them from a guy that already hacked them off a dewalt pack for you.
I bought 12 of them for testing from this guy:
http://myworld.ebay.com/olympics2000888/

They arrived nice and charged, no performance tests yet, but we will be testing them for 4C and 6C charging current and 60-70 amps discharging.
I can post the results when I can.
