Silicone Lube Comparison

Hello.
I was wondering if the silicone lube you can buy specifically for airsoft guns is the same as silicone lube you buy at say home depot or lowe's. I have always used "CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Lubricant", have I been damageing my guns? I have heard that remote control car silicone lube works good too. What do you guys think?

Have a good weekend everyone!

If it has any petroleum ingredients, it's bad.

Thanks.
It doesn't have petroleum distillates, however, what I am asking is, is it still as good as "official airsoft silicone lube"?

This? http://www.ryderfleetproducts.com/cg...uct_detail.jsp

How thin is it?
It says, " for metal, plastic, Rubber, nylon" so it won't eat your o ring. So it should be good to use near rubber.
What parts of the gear box are you using it for?

If its too thin I don't think it will be great for the gears or you will get too much metal on metal. For gears I like using something pastier similar to White lithium paste. For the cylinder I tend to go for thinner but not not too thin like some spray products with silicone.

If its too thin you might not get good compression at the start or after a few hundred shots because it could disipate quickly. So test the piston compression when you have the mechbox apart.

Looks like a spray can so I'm assuming it's thin, but I dunno.

EDIT: It should be fine for GBB's if it's relatively thin, and oil-like.

oh that totally different. I thought you were using it For AEG mechboxes. For my airguns I don't use thick paste lubes at all. Usually I use the thinnest I can get away with that wou't cause too qucikly metal on metal grinding For example, under the metal slide. Also I like to keep any rubber orings and such lubed or they dry out.

For AEG gears- white lthium, or gear grease purchased from an airsoft place. It usually is thicker so it stays on the gears longer.

Still trying to find a better lube for the cylinder on AEG though. The silicone 100% paste-I'm using now I think is slowing my piston down, It seems too sticky. So when I go to Canadain Tire next time I'll shop around and see what I can find. I want to check out that super lube paste mentioned on another thread.

So "official airsoft" lube is thicker? Or do you recommend any "non-official" silicone lube?

You use different lubes/greases for different parts.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but you lube where the slide touches the frame, the blowback unit, barrel, gas release valve and surrounding area, recoil spring, hammer internals, and inside of magazine. What oil should go in what spot?

The oil I use is very thin and very liquidy.

Thin-ish oil is good for all/most parts of a GBB. You shouldn't need to oil/grease the recoil spring or hammer internals.

That would probably be overdoing it and you will get drippy-gun syndrome

The oil I use leaves a white mark wherever it touches the plastic. Is this the oil, or the plastic (it was a $60 kjw m9 plastic)? I imagine that kwa g17's plastic is better than $60 kjw plastic.

For my GBB pistols, I use a regular non-petroleum silicone spray I got at Canadian Tire. Keeps all my slides and internals running nice and smooth.

For my AEGs, I got some G&P silicone lubricant. Comes with 3 viscocities of lube - a thin oil for bushings and bearings, a thicker cylinder grease, and a thicker gear paste.

I was pleasently surprised this thread wasn't what I expected after reading the title.
