AK47 question
Hi. I bought a kraken and I want to upgrade it. I'm not sure what I should do with it but I have some ideas.(AK-74 or something like that. I saw the Kbs Beryl. A polish assault rifle and it looks like it would be cool for airsoft. I just need to do a lot of upgrades and I'm not sure if I can get a top cover with a rail for the AK. Please reply if you have any ideas.

It's not worth upgrading a Kraken to a Beryl, as you end up replacing almost every part.

Do you think I would be better off with making an ak74 instead?

same problem man, they may not appear to be all that different at first glance but you'll be replacing almost everything on the gun.
My advice to you is if your Kraken is shooting okay now, to just replace the starndard AK47 stuff with metal and wood. If it's your first time taking apart an AK it's a good place to start and it increases the resale value of your gun. you gotta crawl before you can make Beryls.

Do you mean just "those variants exist in airsoft form"? There's AK-74 too. And that's AK-74M, not MN. AK-74MN is made up by TM, it's actually just an AK-74M.

not trying to jack your thread or anything, but I just bought a Kraken too. The guy who sold me it at Cabellas said I could uprgrade it with Tokyo Mauri parts. If our guns are the same then you could do that too. I got the After Math Kraken with some od and clear plastic on it. It shoots 370 fps. Hope it helps.
EDIT: not sure if you wanted to just upgrade the Ak 47 but I guess you wanted to modify it ,changing it into pretty much a whole new gun. |

you can modify it with TM parts.... to shoot 280... =/

The Kraken is TM compatible. If you have any internal or exernal part you want to replace, replace it with a TM or compatible part. The only TM part you probably wouldn't want to use is the spring, since it would reduce your velocity pretty significantly. And most fields have a 400 fps limit (soe allow 420, I believe). A 370 fps gun is more than enough to keep up. You don't need a higher velocity than that. My favourite gun is my M15A4 rifle, and it shoots at about 360. I wouldn't see myself ever upgrading it to get more velocity.

best upgrades for those krakens is some preventive maintenance so that strong 370fps spring doesnt kill your box, so change out the nylon bushings for metal ones, and a shim job and re-grease and your good as far as the gearbox goes.
only other internal improvement would be the inner barrel and hop-up assembly in order to improve accuracy next its the external upgrades, metal body, wood grips etc. and you are set |

Nylon bushings are bushings made of nylon or plastic like material. They are part of the internals of a mechbox that help holds the gears in place. Im AEGs that use lower FPS springs nylon bushings are fine, but in higher FPS AEGs that it is best to swap out the nylon and replace with metal. Since a heavier grade spring will degrade the bushing.
