TM clone shotgun review

So I picked up a UTG shorty shotgun. I always thought UTG made crap, but then learned that the shorty shotgun they make is a TM clone and can use the same shells.

I have not gamed the thing yet or had a chance to check the FPS on it. Online it says that the UTG shotgun will do 290-300 fps, I know that my TM will only do 250 fps. Will update after I actually check.

Holding the UTG shotty it feels pretty solid. Without looking close, most would mistake this for a TM.

TM on the top, UTG on the bottom. Excuse the orange tip :P

There are a few details that I noticed were different. First the ejection port. On the TM the is a metal plate, while the UTG is just one solid piece of plastic body. The metal plate is only cosmetic anyways so it's not a huge deal. The other difference is that the shell door seems more flimsy than on the TM. Seeing as how this almost always breaks off anyways, I guess it doesn't matter.

Pic of the body. Top is the TM metal cover and bottom the solid plastic. Note that my TM shotty is very well used and looks a bit beaten up :P

Last is the shells. The UTG came with 2 while the TM only comes with 1. I did a little reading online and the UTG shells need a bit of lube right out of the box as they are apparently very dry inside. Price wise tho you can buy 6 UTG shells for $14 USD compared to $25 for 3 TM shells. The UTG shells have a much more shiny look to them, because of the sticker they used, while the TM shells are solid flat red with the letters printed on.

The UTG shells also come in 3 three colors red, green and black when you buy a pack and you can't choose so you get 2 of each.

So while I have not gotten to use the shotty yet, so far I am impressed. The UTG cost less than half the price of a TM shotty and comes with a extra shell, speed loader and crappy sling. I have no idea on durabitily tho. My TM shotty has seen 2 years of hard use and I only needed to replace the nozzle once. The UTG is untested and I have no idea how sturdy the internals are.

I do like the lower price point and how shells are also much cheaper. The ability to use TM or UTG shells on either is also a nice.

Will update again after I chrony and game the new one.

I also have one of these.

I have the fullstock model and a shitton of shells (21).

Iv used it in 1 outdoor game and a ton of nights at TAC and i love just about everything about this gun.

the fact it comes pre cutdown is a nice lil bonus for it. the biggest differance i noticed when compaired to the TM counterpart is that it has a much heavyer slide pull then then TM so heavy as a matter of fact that i hurt my arm after using it 3 nights in a row.

fps wise im guessing its around the 300 mark, i use 25s with it though to give it less of a spread, i fired a shell of 12s through it and the spread it gave was amazing.

as for the shells i found one difference to the TM ones, the small peg that holds the base of the shell on is plastic where as the TM one is metal.

overall i love the gun, good price and alot of fun for indoor use, or just looking all badass running through the woods

No I never got around to chrony the thing. Actually both my UTG's shottys have been sold. I bought a new AEG and needed some money. Shotguns are great and lots of fun but overall not as effective as a good AEG so up they went.

Yes I did use TM shells in them and I tried the UTG shells in my TM shotty without anyproblems.

Iv gamed mine about 3 times plus tac, mine chronys at around 310 on .2s but i use 25s with it mostly. It has from waht i can tell to be a stronger spring so it gives it taht extra bit of juice but ill see if that dies down afew abit

now I'm just curious to see if anyone is brave enough to order the crosman version. Pretty curious to see if it ACTUALLY shoots 360 fps as said by shootsoft...

Does the crossman shotty shoot 3 bb's?

I had the CAW ATS shotty for awhile and it only fired 1 bb at 400 fps. It looked like a shotty but was really more like a pump sniper rifle.

No, this one shoots 3 bb's, as advertised on shootsoft, 3 bb's, 360 fps, shell magazine, just like the TM.

Been thinking of getting the clear one from that states, but it has a chance of being taken, and me getting in trouble.
