CA SD5
So i just bought myself a Classic Army SD5 parts/repair gun. They guy just shipped it out yesterday so i dont have it in hand yet, but i wouldn't mind ordering any parts that i may need seeing as i'd like to get it up and running.
What he told me is that it will not fire in full auto and only the first 3-4 shots in semi, then it wont fire. I'm not sure what the gun actually does when it quits firing, if perhaps it half cycles or clicks, that i'm not sure of. So i guess it could be many different things, perhaps the selector plate is crap, battery problems, loose wiring, i'm not too sure yet. Perhaps someone else has had this problem. Any ideas? |

If I were to take a guess at it, I would think maybe the selector plate spring is missing. If you try it out and when it stops firing, will the trigger not be able to be pulled or just doesn't cycle once pulled. Hard to say without actually knowing the exact symptoms.

Alright well i just got it in, it's a pretty sweet setup. I wasn't told that it had been previously upgraded and came with a large 9.6 volt. So that was a nice treat.
So I pulled off the lower receiver and found that the selector plate wasn't totally connected so fixed that and test fired it everything worked perfectly. Until i got the wonderful gear grinding noise, from my experiences with MP5's it seemed as if the motor alignment was the key to this problem, after adjusting it, it would put out 2-3 shots and start grinding again. Is their any other things that could be the cause of this problem? |

Is there any metal shavings in the gearbox? Do you see any gouges in the gearbox from the gears? Are any of the gear's teeth damaged? Is the motor bevel damaged? Check to see if any of the wiring inside the gearbox is damaged from rubbing or blocking a gear.
It's possible that it's a bad shim job, nylon bushings have failed, broken teeth... You'll have to open her up and let us know what you find. |

Ya i popped her open and my Bevel gear was missing 2 teeth side by side. Luckily i had an extra sitting around so popped it in there, shimmed it all, shimmed the motor, and everything is working out beautifully.
I had opened it a few times trying to find the enemy making this awful noise, but once replacing that gear and pushing the motor in just a tiny bit, all is well. |
