3 point slings only need 2 attachment points. Believe me, I have one.

Yup. I have 3-point slings for most of my guns. They only require 2 attachment points.

Not sure if it is to secure the sling in carry, but it sure does have something to do with the 3 point sling.

Yes it is another place to mount the sling. Although I wouldn't trust that piece as far as I can throw it.. Doesn't seem strong enough..

It does have to do with the sling, but really am unsure of what part of what sling clips to there, has always baffled me too, but it's not an alternative sling attachment point, it's a secondary temp holder. When it's to be used, I haven't a fucking clue.
