gear problem

Hi, i usually don't ask for help i usually just look around the forum or just figure it out on my own but now i don't know what to do.

I upgraded my CA ver.2 mech box about 6 to 8 months ago.

whats inside: Systema All Helical Gear Set Torque Ratio,Angel Silent Head Set Ver.2,Deep Fire Titanium Piston (Titanium Teeth),Prometheus Stainless Hard Cylinder,G&G Reversal Stop Latch,Area1000 Tappet Plate,Guarder Anti-Heat Selector Plate,Systema Magnum Motor,Systema Air Seal Nozzle,TN Barrel,Deep Fire Spring Guide with Bearing,Prometheus m110.

So my problem was that i went thought about 2 sets of gears from the teeth bending out of shape or the teeth just stripped or the red systima pistons teeth would strip as well.

Eventually on the third set i got things working pretty smoothly but just today it happened again the sector gears teeth had worn dawn to the point that it would not ketch the teeth on the piston. I don't really think this is normal wear on the teeth.

I originally went with the Systema Helical Gear Set Torque Ratio because i wanted quietness hence the angel silent piston head but the gears were not nearly as quiet as i thought, it was probably because thay weren't aligned properly or something I'm over looking.

If anybody know why this is happening or can recommend a really strong set of gears that are pretty quiet, it would REALLY HELP i just don't have the money to keep buying gears when it could be being used to buy me more EAG's or a nice WE gbb

Any help or ideas would be really helpful

thanks,

Thanks for the suggestion i'll look into Prometheus gears now. Are they really stronger then Systema i heard that there the best thought.

I also just went on airsoftparts.ca and i saw the Modify High Torque Modular Gearset
http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...roducts_id=687

has anyone had any experience with these i know one guy did and he seemed pretty happy with them but I've never seen something like this before so i would like to know a little more about them.

Careful with the modular gear sets as they don't fit reinforced mechboxes (which includes yours I believe...check the list on airsoftparts.ca). I thought it was rumoured they were making one for a reinforced mechbox.

Helical gears are noisy. Go with a standard set of gears and you should be able to avoid all problems listed above.

And, too many upgraded parts such as in your list increase the 'fuck up' factor of mechbox reliability. Most often basic upgrades are the ones tha tlast the longest, put in too many different types of brands, upgrade types, etc. and you increase the chances of fuck ups while decreasing the reliability.

I've run over 50,000 rounds through my MG36 and it had Systema helicals. I have never had a problem. I tore it apart last fall and the gears show almost zero wear. You must not have shimmed the gears properly. Helicals have to be shimmed differently from straight cut gears.

Ok, so from what i hear i think next time I'll just got with some standard spur gears and a polly piston. I really hope that this fixes my problem and i don't have to buy more gears for awhile. I allso think Im going to buy a new G&P 7MM mech box because their is a pretty good chance the mech box itself is out of tolerances judging buy the where on the teeth. but any more suggestions would be varry appreciated.

By their design Helical gears run quieter than standard gears, it's actually a big selling feature for high speed applications in industry.
The reason your stripping gears like nobodies business is because the metal on the teeth of your piston is superior to that of the metal of your gears. Every mechbox needs a "sacrificial part", most commonly the piston, because it's cheaper to replace a 20$ piston than a 100$ set of gears. Now the reason you were stripping the piston probably has to do with the angel silent head set..

Yes Helical gears need to be shimmed properly if not they will strip

I disagree. I'm running a Deepfire titanium tooth piston in the same gun as the Systema helicals, it too shows almost zero wear after 50,000 rounds. A big part of a reliable set up is good quality parts the other is proper installation. I'm not kidding when I say when I took my MG36 apart after two years of hard shooting (how's 5000 rounds in a one hour game grab ya?) the part with the most wear were the piston rails on the gearbox and they were just nicely polished. The teeth on the piston were very lightly polished same for the helicals. I still say, it's your installation that's fubaring your gears.

It sounds to me that he's got a bad mechbox (ie. out of spec) and things are not aligning properly.

- The mechbox crapped out on him in like 2000rnd in the stock form before he upgraded.

- Went through 3 sets of gears so improper installation seems a bit unlikely (in atleast one case) or he really has no idea what he's doing.

- The gear teeth were folding over which means they probably weren't 'biting' enough of each other which points to mechbox being misaligned.

- The titianium piston wore down the sector gear very fast (improper meshing) is another suspect of misaligned mechbox.

- Wrecking quality parts on a moderate spring very fast.

Sounds to me that he's just got a lemon mechbox. Doesn't matter how strong your parts are; if they don't fit together right it won't work properly.

Thanks for all the excellent advice with my problem. I think i will go ahead and order a new mech box along with another set of helical gears because i really don't think ive been shimming them improperly because i have spent a fair amount of time making sure that they were shimmed correctly.I think i'll go with the polly piston as well because i rather have shavings of plastic the metal floating around. As for the angel piston head being the problem i don't think so because i was using it on my m15a3 and i had no problems what soever until i i moved it to my other mech box but i could be wrong.

I'm probably going to go with the G&P mech box because i want a really nice strong 7mm mech box that i can set thing up in.

Thanks for the help!
