Opinions on the Tokyo Marui MP7 A1?
For those who have handled and/or own one, has the gun been good to you? Do the stock parts hold up well? Thanks in advance.

This gun has been good to me. It makes an excellent cqb weapon and with some upgrades, it can hang with most stock aegs. If you are interested check out my for sale thread here http://www.airsoftkelowna.com/forum/...ead.php?t=3118

I got one. Don't know too much about the stock internals since I had mine upgraded right after I got it, but's it's a nice AEP. Solid build and feels pretty nice.
FPS is pretty low stock tho and upgrading can be a pain and expensive just to get the FPS up. I put in about $100 to get mine to 285 fps and couldn't really go higher than that without going for a external battery. The stock battery in only 500 mah so you will need more than one as well. I would recomend the mp7 so long as you use if for CQB or as a secondary back up. Outdoor you could use it, but gonna need to run allot. |

The speedy replies are much appreciated. Alas, I'm not currently looking to purchase a gun. Just doing some preliminary research.

Very good gun, a lot of people slag it because it's an AEP but it's built VERY well and shoots very well. If I was allowed an SMG as a side-arm, then I'd SO slap one on my back.

Hey Aqua, I got news for you. Your allowed to use an SMG as a side arm. But just because you can do that doesnt mean it replaces me.

As I've told many people in the past, it shoots much like a stock Japanese GBB in terms of range, power and accuracy, and if you treat it as such it performs well (maybe even better in cooler weather, using full auto... and much cheaper mags).
But if you're considering this as an alternative to a full size AEG SMG (such as the MP5s, UMP, or G36C, etc.) it'll fall short of expectations in most cases (except maybe in very confined CQB, like a kill house). The build of the TM one is fine (haven't heard of any issues except the charger) but someone did experience a mechbox failure when trying to upgrade one of the "Exact copy of the TM" clones, so one can infer the quality is lower on those. One problem I have with it personally is being short (5' 6") I find the stock a bit long when extended, especially with body armor on. Really wish the stock had more than just one position (I think the real one is designed like that, though). Fortunately it's quite handy to use as an oversized pistol.

i had one before. It has decent ROF, CQB fps, insane range for its size, versatile and ergonomic, and the best reliaiblity there is.
because of the excellent TM hop up design, the mp7 can out range many guns, not mentioning its accuracy. overall its a pretty nifty little piece if you'd ask me. |

Agreed....It is an excellent option to a GGB, and I will eventually be looking to purchase 2 for such use. I'd be installing one with speed gears (for off hand shooting), and the other will be getting the whole over haul.....level 3 super torque up gears, silent piston head, bushings...yadda yadda, and a 170% spring (or possibly a 190%, depending on how the accuracy is affected by the short barrel length...I will have to experiment to see what is acceptable).
Of course it'll need a custom battery of the 1700 mah variety or higher (1700 mah cells are presently available in all sizes), and I'll probably need to carry 2 or 3 batteries to survive a game day using this one. But just imagine the look on their faces when you out range their indoor M-4's with an electric "pistol". Just a thought.... SHA DO

Whaaaa? You do know the MP7 doesn't use standard gearbox parts, right? And AFAIK no one makes high speed or torque up gears for it, nor a 170/190% springs. The only springs for it are NineBall's and DeepFire's MS80. NineBall makes a 6.03mm inner for it though, which is pretty much the only upgrade I'm considering for mine.

There are a couple of local shops that have helped me out a couple of times with custon mods and rework to my metal bodies, as well as some internals over the years (mostly for AR's and my beloved APS2). I usually have to wait until they have no runs in production, which is rare, and it's not cheap by any means, but well worth it. As well, I have heard of a guy that has frequented a couple of the Splatters games this season who has machined every part to a custom AEG of some type...from the gears right through to the flash hider. I'm not to sure as to what model it is and who this old, quiet Asian fellow is, but Zeon and some of the regulars have told me about him.... and his work. Maybe he'll want to make some coin on the side..... Once you have established that the work is not for real steel, almost any shop will be willing to do the work for you....for the right price. ...but the springs.....hmmmmm.. SHA DO

Well, if you can get custom parts made that's a different story (anything is possible, then, really). I know there are places that do custom springs (I looked into it, for a different project [magazine]).
But then I'd worry about the mechbox being able to "take it."

How could an SMG >>EVER<< replace you? Somehow, I can't see an SMG doing a reach-around.
