Spammer problem solution?
Is it possible to use a system similar to Yahoo (or others) that require the person to type in what they see in an image when creating an account? That way spambots cant post.

That solution has already been hacked. There are newer versions that are harder to circumvent, but VB has yet to implement them into the design as far as I'm aware.

We could make it so we can join only on invitation, as in, you need to E-mail some one on the forum to be allowed to join?
but im afraid they would get spammed by idiots...

There should be a setup where new users need posts OK'd by a mod to become visible. That means more work for the mods, and then the new members loose that immediate satisfaction posting feeling.
We use that setup on a site I'm a mod at, it's a more "family" so it chops all the porn posters out. We never get those by an iphone guys posting at our site for some reason, just porn. |

I am on cnczone. They screen each new post for the first three or so. Then they give the ok and you can post all you want.

Are the spambots really creating such an unsurmountable volume of posts that we can't just skip over the quite-obvious-it's-spam titles (or just flag the thread) and wait a few hours for a mod to delete them?
