Question New battery charging

I just got my first air soft gun. It says to fully discharge the battery before charging it for the first time, is this really necessary? or does it even matter? My gun didn't come with a discharger so should I buy one and do it or just charge it any way?

Thanks in advance

If it specifically states that you should discharge it first, you probably should. Though, did it comes with the gun, or does the gun's manual just recommend it?

More details!

Well you may wanna hit up Prairie Battery since you live in Regina, they can cobble you up extra batterys custom ordered for a decent price, they can probly built you a discharger too, but if you got the tech know how you can make your own with parts from Radioshack/source.

Now, when you state that " It says" what is it? is there a booklet or a manual? is this information written on the box. It would help if we knew what kind of battery and what kind of gun and charger you had to start.
Im assuming you just have a basic dummy charger, a wall plug that leads into a jack head that fits your battery?

Also are you able to tell us what type of battery and the mAH of it? Its possible there maybe a label on your battery that will state if it is Ncad or Nimh.

Give us a few more details and we will be able to assist.

Sorry about no details,

I got a Kraken Ak-47, it came with a manual the battery and the charger, its a 1200mah 8.4v Nc id (mini) battery, the manual says to fully discharge it before charging it for the first time, the charger just has a cord that connect to it.

Ncad batts do grow a memory over time, so every now and then its good to discharge them fully before recharge. Im not a battery specialist, but you do live in a town with them. Id like to say a full discharge and recharge before you use your gun is a good idea, but the only real thing you have to discharge that battery with is your aeg! And well that wont do, since its not really a good idea to run a batt in your gun till its almost dead, you dont want to leave a spring half compressed or something.

Anyways, like I said, you live in a town with some battery pros. Give prairie battery a call they can hook you up with all the answers and possibly the items you may need.

Enjoy your purchase.
