China air's wrong gun names are invading video games

Yeah I'm bored at the moment and accidentally clicked on this news piece on moddb.com and had a bit of a laugh fest, I posted my comments right under the model renders and felt like sharing this with the rest of the ASC community. http://news.moddb.com/23147/m16-a4/ oh and my comment is the one posted by BeyondTheGrave.

The stock seems long and the carry handle does not seem to be removeable
so I vote it is a bad copy of a M16A1 with a strange collapsable stock.
still may look cool in a video game (I assume thats what its for)that does not offer a M series of rifle.

Some people just don't know guns. It's not uncommon.

It's not an M16 or an M4. It's an M733 with a rail forearm. Note the long flash hider and integrated carry handle (non-removeable).

It's a hybrid of several different guns and it looks like crap. the mag is shaped all wrong, the collapsible stock looks like 1 piece. Its got an A1 upper with an M4 length barrel. overall the model looks very blocky and misshapen.

Notice the A1 style carry handle and lack of brass deflector. But it does appear to have a 14" barrel. It's like an M4 (the original Colt Model 720, AKA M16A2 Carbine, not the M4A1/Model 927) but with a stepped barrel (which the 720 didn't have) and a RIS handguard.

Moz; that person has the right to model whatever they want. Originality is not an obligation and it certainly is not a beauty factor. My best example would be Halo. It's far from original yet everyone seems to love that game these days.

Also, it appears his armalite is far from being an exact copy of an existing model but more of a mash-up of different existing models so in a way, this variant hasn't been modeled already.

H-G, since when do I talk out of my ass? I don't even care what that armalite is, I was only defending the artist's point.

Aqua: because its their right to do whatever they feel like modeling. If that person has a mod in mind where you would use an armalite as a primary weapon, he should model an armalite as a weapon.

Moz, H-G and Aqua, have you guys seen the movie The Kingdom? It's a fictional movie about some terrorist bomb that blows up in Saudi Arabia. If I would go by your perspective; this movie is pure shit since the men in the movie use AK-47's and M4's to fight. It's so clear that the writer, director and producer of that movie should have invented new weapons since we've already seen M4's and AK-47's in movies.

When it comes to modeling, texturing, animating and drawing and just plain creating; the author/artist has the right to do whatever he wishes too since it's his work.

I respect the artist of that model even though I think alot of work is needed for it.

You analogies are all wrong. All of those suggest something new or different. That M4 model is nothing new or different.
