What's with the sudden increase in PTW chat lately? I know they rock and all, but lately it seems like every other thread is about a PTW...

Not that there's neccesarily anything wrong with it... but I think I've learned more about PTWs in the past week than since I joined the site.

We just discussed the topic of PTW's at a game I was at today. We concluded that pretty much all serious airsoft players who use armalites will eventually get one. A fully upgraded normal gun costs $1500-2000 if you pay retail prices to bring it to where you want which isn't too far from PTW pricing and you don't need to touch a thing. Some people disagree with this and say its all hype or the PTW isn't nearly as good as many say it is but I don't know a single person who thinks that after handling one for even 2-3 minutes.

Gotta love back orders, eh?

I want a RAS and saw that one on Illusions PTW and didn't mind the look. He listed it as costing him $430 so when I found it on eBay for $120 I snagged it.

When I added up what I spent on my other armalites, that is exactly what I thought. So the decision was unanimous, a PTW MAX it was going to be. I can use RS accessories (and receivers with little work), I can swap my FPS way the heck faster, and I have something that is reliable in semi and does burst. I am happy.

As for buying, nice to have stuff to repair problems:

-Systema Cylinder Rebuild Kit, can't hurt to have a few.
-Systema Hop Up Chamber Kit, let you fool around and have a spare.
-Systema PTW Hop Adjuster Set with Cushions, even more backup.
-Systema Cylinder Grease, meh, designed for PTW, might as well use it.

edit: awh, what the heck, I like it... Magpul PRS:

Lutnit, are you actually going to pack around 15 PTW mags to go with those 15 ranger plates? If so, you better have a good back or a better health insurance plan, cause that weight is going to do you in!!!

I have a hard time packing 8 in my rig. With only mags, cylinder kits and 2 batteries, my rig weighs about 20 pounds, and it's the lightest one I own. Add the hyd carrier and 3L of water and it takes it to about 35 pounds. Add to that the 11.5 pounds in the wieght of the gun and now I'm near 50 pounds in extras added to my 200 pound frame. And I don't carry that kind of weight all the time. Soldiers would, but I don't!!

batteries, mags, + appropriate cylinder unit, RDS. oh and some Really Nice quality BBs. if your gun shoots above 350 fps, try using .28 or .30g BBs. KSC makes excellent and economical .30g's.

most of the other add-ons are just eye-candy.

At this point, you may wish to sell your AEG to fund more real steel parts for your PTW.
and that's where I come in! If everyone's going PTW, there should be a nice flood of "lesser" AEGs for the nonbelievers. (:

Now assuming you have that covered already, I suggest playing with it unmodded first. No holosight, no rails, no vert grip. See how you like it.

Before I got my PTW I had everything planned out... LaRue or YHM rail system, VLTOR upper, maybe the Magpul M93 stock if I decided to go LiPo. But I've discovered that I actually really like the stock handguard, crane stock and carry handle on the PTW where I had never liked any of them before on any AEG - there is simply a noticeable difference in build quality.
Yeah. Alot of people just buy shit that looks cool. But, in reality, do you REALLY need that rail kit, those lasers, that 250 lumen light, and that RS Acog? No. But it sure as hell looks cool
