AUG H-BAR outer barrel and bipod
im planning on building an aug hbar out of my ca aug a2.i know its not the easiest project and was wondering if anyone here who has owned one could give me some advice on the best way to go about it. my main concerns are barrel specs for custom machining and sources for an m60 style bipod ( top if possible but smokeys will do). im also considering cutting and plastic welding two spare highcaps i dont use into a 42 rounder. any input would be welcome. thx.

LOL - I have had my own AUG HBAR.
good luck - the correct flashider is the hard part. :salute: Also the bipod is not an M60 one. It is an AUG HBAR specific part. I got my dims from the real gun (by way of specs found on internet) These pics will give you an idea.

yeah i realize the real bipod is aug specific but id probably have a better time finding jimmy hoffa. i think the m60 one is the best im gonna get. ( jeez i hope i dont need arms like that to carry an hbar lol)

I just noticed on airsoft-news that the new Inokatsu AK Evil 13 has an Hbar style flash hider on it!
Maybe you could use that?? (its slightly different - the Inokatsu one has a dish cutout at the front and the Hbar is flat accross the front)

Well, I have a HBar that I am still building and aquiring parts for. I see that you are in the States so maybe finding parts is a little bit easier for you, but it has been a hassel for me to faithfully re-build it.
I have the barrel already, and finding the right flashhider in the airsoft world is not possible. Its just not made, you can get pretty close, but who wants close? As for the Bi-pod, even tracking down a TOP M60 one is pretty hard. I have been looking for some time, and have also been trying to track down a real steel one with little success. On the note of the Mag, for airsoft use even the longer mag wont really offer you what you are wanting in terms of ammo capacity. when you are dealing with m249's that have 1500-5000 capacities on them, the 500 bbs you have seem i'll equiped. As well, when putting in a high rated battery into the AUG, with both TM and the CA, the Aug Highcaps wont feed it fast enough, so even though it is firing, its not shotting. Low caps dont have this problem, but putting 80rnds into a LMG doesn't really fit its playing style. Although with a 10.8v battery in mine, it sure does sound pretty deadly. As well, for a proper length outer barrel, make sure that you get the right measurements. I know that the H-Bar that Den put out was not the right length, they took the listed length of the barrel and made it that long, not taking into account how much of that figure was actually inside of the gun's body. Looks cool, but was really too long. Another thing you should look at is the set pin that holds the outerbarrel in place. Find a way to reenforce it, as with the heavier barrel and the bi-pod on it you will find that it will start to spin in place, and then it will just not be able to hold onto the barrel at all. Beware when grabing your gun by the barrel! As well, you say you have the A2 reciever, well, the H-BAR is made with the integrated scope, AKA the A1 reciever. now the A2 you could make into a H-BAR-T which is the scout sniper rifle platform. Internally really is going to be the same as far as airsoft is concerned. But you will defently have to upgrade it to place the extended inner barrel in it.

thanks for your advice and info from your project. im not going for an exact replica i only want to meet the lmg rules for most of the fields here in MB and stand out from the plethora of 249's. i own 2 augs the first a tm a2, and the second is my CA. the CA will be the project gun as the upper and lower reciever lock in tighter than my old and trusty tm and is easily reenforced by extending that puny nub at the front of the lower reciever. as for where the barrel meets the upper reciever im reenforcing that with a setscrew just below the front sling swivel. for the outer barrel and bipod im still trying to find the dimensions for the barrel and any reasonable facsimile to the real steel bipod. the gun itself im going to keep relatively stock (including inner barrel for now) ,except for the deans ultra connector upgrade and 1500mah elite (x2) which give the gun a rof of 19 rps@ 320 fps thats in there now. i just want to do the mag for the look, and to see if i can make it work. i use 5 locaps and my 3 highcaps just collect dust anyway. its my favorite rifle and id love to make this happen, thanks again for the info and any input that could save me some grief would be greatly appreciated!
