sniper advice needed
hey all...
I registered on this forum coz I have the feeling most of you know what you're talking about, and maybe you could help me out... Im thinking of buying a airsoft gun sniper rifle, but I'm not really sure which one to pick I was thinking something like those models: M82A1/XM107 something like the Barrett model. I am totally in love with them. but the only model I could find was from VFC but its way over my budget, and its on gas I can not imagine that there are no other decent brands which create beatiful airsoftguns like that? aren't there any other brands creating Barrett models? ( prefereably not a gas model ) |

You have to be over 18 to buy airsoft stuff.
aaaand The Barrett is too huge to be practical in airsoft |

If you are actually planning to "snipe" (and I use the term loosely, because the effective range of a "sniper" rifle amounts to not much more than another 20-30 yards more than a tuned up, full-auto AEG at the best of times), be prepared to spend a minimum of $800-$1000 on the gun alone. Since you're not going to be able to expolit a huge difference in range as per real steel, you pretty much have to uprgrade a "sniper rifle" to insane levels of accuracy and consistency at a cost of usually several hundred dollars more than the initial purchase price of the rifle.
If you can't come up with that kind of cash, don't bother. A stock AEG has similar range and accuracy to a stock sniper rifle, only the AEG has a 20:1 ROF ratio.....

okay.. first of all thanks all for your replies so far. I think it will be an AEG then instead of a sniper rifle... thinking of an Steyr AUG, or m15a4 or G36c from CA... I just want something where I can mount a scope on, and must be able to handle longrange. It must be durable, heavy and accurate
I've been scanning tokyo marui product catalog, maybe a scoped G3 like on this picture top right (maybe psg1? less than 500 buks) anyone any good experiences with AEGs from TM? I have a DE hard kick, and the accuracy isnt great... its ok but not great... it could be better Last edited by c0ld; May 14th, 2007 at 16:48.. |

Get the CA G36, put in a Prometheus 110SP or 120SP spring, a Prometheus 6.03mm tightbore and you are good to go. I put those parts in a bud's CA G36, and at 30ft in my basement it's a tackdriver, all shots within 2" (one of the few guns I've worked on that equals my MP5 accuracy). It also has a metal body, pretty rugged, and a V3 mechbox (more rugged than any of the Armalites.) This would be the most cost effective way to get what you want.
The G3 is pretty flimsy as it is, you'll need to buy metal body parts, etc. and the PSG1 takes a lot of upgrade parts to make it......... decent. |

I have upgraded my TM Aug and CA M14A with tightbores, springs etc so they fire around 400 fps. So far I am very pleased with them both.

If you really want to PLAY, then make your choices based on that. If you're never going to see the field, then it doesn't much matter if your gun shoots 5 feet or 500 feet. Before you do ANYTHING, consult the local player base, attend a game, and see if it's really what you think it is. You'll also have the opportunity to handle a lot of various AEG's and that might influence your decision somewhat. |

The gun is also very solid, no creak or movement when you pick it up or anything. Not too heavy either.

airsoft barrett is useless, you might as well tie lead weights to a MUCH cheaper spring rifle
