STAR L85A2 Issue

I got a STAR L85A2 its about a year old and has maybe about 700rds through it. I fielded it again this weekend and at the end of the day after about four hours in action the thing just stopped firing. You pull the trigger and the motor just clicks. I changed the batteries and tried again still just a click. You can see bolt and the gears attempt to move (through the ejector slot) but still nothing happens. I disassembled the shell of the gun to see if there was an issue in the gear box. Visually I can't see anything obvious. Again if you connect power and move the firing switch you can see the motor do an eighth of a turn around and the gears and bolt jump slightly but nothing else. I also noticed that the battery heats up very quikly along with the cord that leads back to the gear box for about four inches. The motor does not heat up.

I don't really want to open up the gearbox and this thing is still 'new' in my opinion so I can't really see the motor being screwed up yet. . . So any ideas? If not I'll check this thing into a gun doc. Thanks

Had this happen

Check your barrel for obstruction..

Bad barrels on these things .. mine was so bad that bbs got jammed in it...

No where for the air to go... the whole thing just shudders and makes very bad noises.

Something in your mechbox mabey. Looks like either an obstruction in the barrel
which I highly doubt as the mechbox would still be able to move or its somethin
internally and most likely not that major.. Just crack er open and see!

Sounds like exactly the same thing that happened to mine... I thought it was a gearbox trouble... but turned out to be an obstructed barrel... Look there first before pulling the gearbox apart...

Thanks for the help so far everyone!

Okay, well you'll like this. I checked the barrel and there was nothing at all. So I opened the gun up and thanks to the clear mechbox I saw the issue right away.

That was stuck in the gear between the motor and the first wheel. Its pretty chewed up (as you can see). I figure it got in through the hole in the mechbox near where the magazine sits when the gun is assembled. I had loaded the gun on a weird angle in the match prior to this problem so I figure there was a straggler bb that got in there.

Okay so now the issue is I've got the box back together and now the motor slips. What the hell did I do now? Is there a set screw or something like that I need to adjust. I'm still new at this the is the first time I've taken this gun apart and the second time I've ever taken a mechbox apart. Please help again.

Here is a close up of the problem area. I've got a feeling the spring isn't sitting properly. Thats roughly where I found the bb as well (just in front of that).

Thank you all for your help so far!

your bevel gear seems to be stripped from the description you posted. between the motor and gear" You'll need to replace it, unless there isn't a lot of damage then you can adjust the motor position.

EDIT: I've got a bevel gear for sale (same version as your gun) in the parts section and I'm in sauga!
