Hey, I've been reading through a lot of the guides and posts here, and although I am only 16, I would like to start budgeting for purchases 2 years from now, since $$ will probably be tight at university. The main thing I'm interested in in airsoft is Milsim, and the fact that it seems far more accurate and realistic than paintball. Anyway, I've read around that sniper's aren't good for first timers, which is fine by me considering I would have to know how to modify one for it to be any useful. So, I'm looking for a budget of a full set of gear(I know ammo is more of a constant) price line. For an AEG, I'm looking for something that will last(Tokyo Mauri), but I want a gun that will suit my style of non-trigger happy, efficienmt and accurate marksmanship. I realize that most of the guns are the same inside, but also that the little things, like barrel length count, so an advisory for what I should be looking for would be nice. I'm the kind of person that hides until the last possible moment, then ambushes, or precision marksmanship from afar, so ROF isn't a huge thing, accuracy is. As for gear, when I find a reenactment group I'll be hoping to get into it, but for now it seems the basics are a paint ball mask, and some hunting gear. If this needs to be moved feel free to do so, hopefully I'll find it. Thanks!

Save, save alot but dont buy. Like electronics, things go out of style fast in airsoft. Hunting gear isnt much use to airsoft, and Im sure 2 years from now, there will be much better products out, so no sence in buying anything right now. Even over the last few years we have seen great improvements in camo, and even great improvements in goggles and such. Guns also.

If I was you, save as much as you can so you can get the rave of the day camo, current protection gear, duty gear and gun.

Think of all the sweet new squad support guns that will be out in the next 2-4 years.

What is a ballpark estimate? 1000$? I have other things I spend money, namely, warhammer, and can't really put ALL my money away, but if I plan it now, I should be fine.

$1000 will get you started and you'll have everything you need to play and have great fun in doing so.

Later on you may or may not want to add more money in and purchase more gear, upgrades, accessories, or even more guns, but you will do fine with that to start you off.

The ballpark setup is already discussed, all there for you to read... no joke.
Start with the FAQ section.

Average gun; $600
Magazines; varies, about $60 for a hicap.
Batteries; varies, let's say $50 each.
Ammo; about $25 per bag.
A good charger; About $150.
Good goggles can reach $100.
Camos; also around $100-$150 for good stuff.

Warhammer does not come close.

I spent over $2000 last year getting into airsoft. Gun, batteries, charger, mags , side arm, clips , vest , couple sets of camo , belt , goggles , ammo and any thing I forgot.
This damn sport is addictive as heroin and just as expensive.

As for a starter weapon go with a armalite of what ever looks good to you, they are the same, I got a CA33E and its been flawless to me and its a good platform for different styles of combat.

i spent about 1600 my first year in... but it depends on what you buy and how nuts you go. 1000 is a good starting price and be aware that university is not cheap in any sense of the word, im doing it myself and you should be already saving for the education.

Not necessarily, even a small army costs $300-400, to be able to compete in major events (larger tournaments compared to our major events) could easily set you back $600-700, a large army to allow options could easily cost $1000+. Airsoft is definitely more expensive but warhammer does come kinda close. 10 years ago warhammer was more expensive because everything was pewter but now everything is cheaper plastics but they jacked their prices.

Eldanesh if you want to continue playing warhammer and save up for airsoft at the same time it can be tight or maybe not possible. $1000 is the bare minimum, I have 2 guns currently and one in the mail that are ~$1300-1600 each though thats because you pay for quality (some guns cost up to $10-14k.) Also if you are just starting to save for university when your 16 its far too late, tuition rates are on the rise and its already ~$6000/year + rent + food + etc. For me living away from home is costing me ~$11 000/year for tution + the bare essentials, my budget is higher than that because I live above the bare essentials (I like eating meat.)

Yes, you can spend tons on miniatures, and then what? You can also spend tons on a computer and play games, it's still nowhere near airsoft.

I spend money on my car, and it's a load of fun to drive, it's still not airsoft.

Aye, it isn't. But you can't compare any of those for play style, quality, etc, they are all completely different types of activiteis. I was speaking strictly from a cost point of view, and I assumed you were as well.
