Battery and Charger question

I need a battery for my TM M14 Socom. I'm thinking Intellect 8.4V 3600 mah Large.

I'd like to get a new, better charger at the same time but after reading the info on several models on Redwolf's site I see they are all only rated for up to 3000mah.

I don't want or need a state of the art charger, just something good enough so as not to diminish battery longevity. Any suggestions?

You want a charger good enough to keep your batteries in shape? Then the comment "You get what you pay for" applies. You should know that.

Your gun, with a badly maintained battery, is a paperweight. Is your enjoyment of the game not worth the once-only purchase of $150 or so? A really good charger repays for itself in less than a year just by taking care of your headaches.

Or you can buy a cheaper charger then come back here like so many others asking 'how-to' questions. Then we'll tell you the same thing or spend the difference in cash to buy a voltmeter.

Where did I say that i want a cheap charger? Where did I say that $150 was out of my price range? I asked a specific question about the published MaH rating on various chargers and their compatibility with a specific battery.

Had it been a few hours since you were able to show everyone what a smart guy you are Grey? Or do you just like the clacking sound your keyboard makes?

Hey Bot, I'm not sure I'd recommend the Intellect 3600mah. I had to strip the shrink wrap and both protective endcaps off mine and rewrap the whole thing in electrical tape in order to get it to fit. It's still a nightmare to get out now, so I just charge the battery inside the gun. I've heard that 3300mah (not Intellect though) cells seems to slide in and out fine.

Actually I read this as saying you didn't want to spend a lot of dough to get an expensive charger either. How else should one interpret your lack of desire or need for a "state of the art charger."

His advice, as I read it was "buy a good one out of the gate, it's worth it." Which is entirely sound.

Perhaps a "thank you" was in order rather than your pouting.

my buddy evilmonkey bought a 60 buck charger and its served me and him very well. for my G&P 8.4V 3300Mah battery and his 9.6V 600 Mah battery. check out hobby shops you can find some good chargers for a steal of a price if you look in the right places.

So should I just disregard those mah ratings that are on Redwolf's site?

Were there just no batteries alrger than 3000 when this was written? Will the above charger serve a 3000+ mah battery alright?

Just get one of those TLP chargers, it fits all your NiMH and NiCd needs, and it's rated for all sorts of mAH.

I answered. What I said is perfectly valid too. You want a charger that can maintain your batteries, guaranteed? Then dont buy below 'state of the art'.

Yikes, it may be a smart move to tiptoe around this thread, but I have to throw my pennies in..

I picked up two Piranha Digital Peak Chargers from Hobby Home at Finch and Yonge for a buddy an I and we've been really happy with the results. The ability to store individual charge settings for different batteries is a huge bonus. It stops charging automatically once it detects the battery is at capacity and can even trickle charge if necessary. If I remember, they only ran about 80 bucks plus the governments cut, but it's a worthwhile investment when it comes to batteries.

p.s. the markings on the face of that charger indicate 270-6500mAH. I don't know where Redwolf got those numbers. Also a plus with that charger is that it has a discharge mode for NiCD's.

I use the same one, and am highly impressed by it. The only thing it lacks is a discharger. Other than that, it delivers.
