O.K. I know sticky's have been made but I've read them and they really don't help me at all, so I would like you to help me out. O.k. first off I read something about having to get your prohib license to get airsoft guns over the border, is this true? 2nd all the videos I have seen with airsoft guns firing sounds like they are made of crappy plastic, and make this really sick sounding sound when fired, which sounds really unrealistic ( but might work if I had incorporated a fake silencer... hmmm... anyway) my next BIG question and probably most asked question is-> how do airsoft guns compare to paintball guns in distance and accuracy. I have some thoughts as to how they would compare considering they fire a smaller and lighter projectile compared to a paintball, lets compare the paintball marker to a high end AEG. Now alot of players I've seen playing only where eye protection ( How does a plastic BB traveling at 400 fps feel on the face? ) And lastly my question which I already partially know... is airsoft more expensive then paintball?

Here's how the average airsoft gun sounds.

12(*) license lol, no. It's just an import license, not a firearms license. (I think, its somewhere in the faq's crap but I don't remember.)

Accuracy and range. On average, FAR superior to a paintball gun. The HK33(CA33) in that video, I was able to hit enemy easily at 120ft and able to choose where the bb will hit them.

Paintballs, as I've seen on the field (shared paintball field) seem to be rather spiratic.

Of course airsoft guns sound unrealistic, there is no combustion of gunpowder or anything. Some guns have a dull pfft sound to them when "silenced".

400fps bb, hitting your face, it stings for a few seconds thats about it, may give a a bit of a bleeder but hey its all good.

Airsoft more expensive then paintball.......thats really debatable.

Depends what you have and how much you shoot. But generally, a lot cheaper. I dont know how much 3000 paintballs cost, but 3000 bb's are about $18.

I like to think of paintball and Airsoft as different ends of the spectrum..

Paintball guns are fairly cheap.. but you can easily spend $100-200 a day on paintballs. With Airsoft you spend anywhere from $600 on a gun to about $2000 including gear, mags, Upgrades, and Combats. Some people spend FAR more, and you know who you are!

3500 Airsoft rounds is only $20. Paintballs are usually about $90-100 for 1000 rounds. Depending on how you play 3500rds could last you more then a game or two... Plus you can get your own Airsoft BB's pretty much anywhere you want to. There is no rule saying you have to buy from the field you play at.

Of course none of this includes the standard $25 you pay at the fields eaither as an Airsofter or a Paintballer.

In the end. I think it all works out to about the same. Its all about what you want though. Airsoft is alot of personal customization.

Well I would like to get into airsoft, but where will I get one? and can anybody confirm that I need a license to get airsoft guns? if so where do I apply for this license. keep in mind im only 16

As a 16 year old person, you can't get one, You need to be 18 to purchase airsoft guns.

There are currently 2 trusted suppliers you can find them under "Canadian Retailers" but they require proof of age of majority to sell them.

In addition most games are restricted to 18+ , and if not require the presence of your legal guardian on the premisis while you participate.

So really you have a 2 year wait until you can fully participate.

You do not need a liscense to buy them in Canada, out of Canada dont bother as you need a business, importation liscenses and a whole bunch of other head aches.

Do a search on here for an age verification rep in your area, once age verified to be 18+ (which means you need to wait 2 years) you will gain access to the Buy/sell forums.

You don't need a license to purchase airsoft weapons, you CAN NOT import an airsoft weapon as an individual. You have to be over 18.

Yes well for now I will just be playing at my friends he has a (180 acre wood and field lot) I think? but I will buy the gun under my dad's name.

Just incase you are wondering I have my minors permit/and outdoors card, and I own my own rifle, you can probably guess what kind, I am responsible.

ya I know im just trying to prove that I'am responsible, and not some 15 year old punk that wants to go hold up a store.

Anyway now that I have had some time to think it over I have decided to get a airsoft gun ( I know I cannot buy one but my dad will) im looking into getting an airsoft sniper rifle of some sort, now I want something that is metal and not cheap plastic and I am willing to spend 600 dollars to do it. With that what kind or distance/accuracy can I expect with it?

regardless of how you feel about your maturity you are still a child. Wait until you can do this legally, but you won't so my only hope is that your dad gets charged when you and your friends do something stupid with your weapon.

No worries... no one is saying you are a punk... just that for the most part this activity is 18+
Technically what you want to get is a replica firearm.. a prohibited device.. no one under 18 is allowed to posses them, so yeah your dad can buy it.. but he has to be standing over your shoulder every time you pick it up.
