VDV
Time to add myself to the pool of people who have pictures of their gun and kit online. Seems like a good idea, since I received a digital camera for Christmas.
I've been working towards a modern Russian Airborne look, with a few embellishments for flair. I have not really pursued a totally authentic look, but in most instances I have tried to stick with thoroughly Russian gear; BDU, vest, pouches, hat, telnyashka, the works. As far as my AEG, I have a TM Beta Spetsnaz with a few additions. I've added a Just AK rail with an Aimpoint replica, as well as a replica PBS. It is a gross looking gun, and I like it. Onto the pictures! I have a few more and if anyone is interested to see them let me know and I will post them. |

telnyashka - be careful wearing it... people might get upset and introduce you to some VDV customs...

Yeoman> Thanks for the positive comments in regards to the kit. I figured out not too long after I got the Beta that a fullsize AK would have been more authentic. Really though, there are enough mutant AK variants out there that something that looks like what I have could have been fielded.
Berkut> Do you say that to all the Russian airsofters out there that wear a telnyashka? Anyways, I've been kicked in the head enough over the years. |

Bandit, I say that to every person who I see wearing one. Some ex VDV guys don't like the idea of non VDV wearing telnyashka and blue beret. Friend of mine was approached by people and asked to take his telnyashka off. That happened in Toronto. My stepdad is one of those guys as well. He doesn't like to see non VDV people wearing any of that stuff.
There is a big thread about beret and telnyashka on Russian airborne board. Most people didn't care but they pretty much said that whoever wants to wear it is taking his/her chances. That's exactly what I told my teammates. Last edited by 666; December 31st, 2006 at 01:00.. |

I wear the normal service one (dark blue). I try to avoid using items used by special units (red berets, light blue or red telnyashka), for those reasons.
Is that a RD-54 in Les that I see? Didn't know they made those. I've only seen the Flora and OD ones.

I absolutely don't wear the beret. I don't even own one. I had a green one in scouts and I hated it.
In regards to the telnyashka I have never encountered this. Certainly I didn't go through the hazing required, nor have I leapt out of an airplane. However, it is all part of the costume of airsoft. It is like people wearing Ranger's badges or sporting the Marine Corps insignia. It is merely for the look, but is also an indication of what the airsofter looks up to. This subject has been done to death though, just look in the airsoft forum at militaryphotos.net. Plus I don't wear that shirt outside of airsoft, just like I don't wear my BDUs. Halloween being an exception. As far as RD-54, I don't have that harness. I've got a belt with a buttpack and double AK mag pouch, and the backpack you are seeing is actually my hydration. It is a MEC brand Camelbak with one leg of an old pair of camo pants cleverly attached with safety pins. Above all, thanks for your interest. |

Also, originally it came from the navy, so VDV have no exclusive right to it. It worn by sailors and marines as well as VDV.

As far as I understand, it isn't issued, but is a common piece of kit worn under the uniform as personal preference (they are damned comfortable, and keep you warm/cool as needed).
