Need to find,a R.A.S. tool for G&P!
I'm looking to see if anybody has any ideas for what I can use to loosen the Delta ring set at the back of the R.A.S. without making a mess of it.I know G&P makes a tool for this, but I'm not going to spend the cash just so I can loosen it and tight'n it ! When I bought the unit I didn't see that the Hop-up was not lined up right,so when you go to remove the upper reciver the Hop-up hits the lower reciver on it's way past,it's also causing some ware issues on my Mag.'s at the feed lip.I sent WGCshop an E-mail and they said I could just loosen the Delta set-up and reposition the Hop-up,seen how it sits in the outer barrel.Anyway if anybody has some ideas on a tool to use for this, shoot! Thanks in advance,Cheers!

Go to Princess Auto and buy the adjustable grinder nut removal tool. It should cost you about $5. It's basically an adjustable spanner wrench and works like a hot-damn on barrel nuts. It has blue handles and is made by Power Fist. You'll find it in with the grinding wheels, etc..
Or you could order one from Asia and pay $40.

Thats cool thanks for the info! My other M4's don't have a R.A.S. so this is kinda a new job for me! Is it wise to use Loc-tite on the reassembley of this part? I'v heard a few people say that it does come loose over time. How much do you have to fight with this set-up in order to loosen and tight'n this bad boy? Thanks again Mcguyver!

I use blue loctite on my RAS units just to ensure security.
When I don't have access to the delta ring tool, I just use a pair of strap wrenches that I got from Canadian Tire. They're handy tools that you can use on tons of things around the house. |

Gaurder makes an armorers wrench. Really good investment to keep your weapons in tip top shape.
Search it on google and you will see what it looks like. |

Well here goes,I took the unit down to a local Gun Doc. and we could not get the Ring that holds the R.A.S. to the reciver to break loose! So I can't even get at the assembly, yep go figure! So I'm kinda at a stand still with it right now,as I can not aline the Hop-up with the upper reciver and the gear box,Hmmm! Thanks for the input guy's,but it looks like it's stuck for now.

This is one of the reasons you need an armorers tool... get it now you wont regret it.

The G&P Delta Ring Key does the same thing as the Guarder Armourer's wrench at 1/3rd of the price.

Ok here we go !!! After reciving a response from WGC,saying that G&P has been know'n to overtighten parts (Oh Ya!) They said to try lossing Counter-clockwise with the unit fully assembled and using the Vert. grip to help as leverage, that the whole R.A.S. lossens as one.Now a friend of mine lent me one of thoes rubber strap type wrenches( I forget the propper name for them?) so as not to leve any marks on the unit, and with that it worked(no marks!).But after just giving on the S.O.B. she just will not buge! So I think this R.A.S. is not going to come off anytime soon.I know McGuyver you'v stated you'v had some time with these units, have you had one do this? I might just have to soke it in lube(not that I want to!) or somthing to that effect.I usally hear the opposite type of problem of them comming loose.Any other idea's? Thanks!

I use a DPMS modified ar support block to hold the upper by the body pins and a DPMS AR rench to work the rings....

you guys are way too hitech lol. i just use a piece of brass rod and a hammer. one quick tap and its loose, and visea versa. tha brass prevents any chipping or bending of the steel delta ring. but if you dont have a piece of brass, id do what mcguyver said, get a spanner wrench, youll be surprised at how many times you take that nut off.
the first time i took mine off, i actually just muscled it off by hand. i held the gun between my knees and gripped the ring with both hands and twisted like fuck, took a bit but eventually i got er.

I had a similar problem when installing an Olympic Arms FIRSH onto my ICS M4 receiver. They were threaded with the same pitch, but the 2 parts wouldn't go on at first. I dremelled down the lands on both parts and they finally mated up, but they were damned tight. I needed a tool and didn't have one handy. I have 6 or 7 grinders in the garage, but no adjustable grinder nut tool so I took an old non adjustable grinder nut tool, cut it down and welded it together to the dimensions I needed. The FIRSH nut was still damned hard to install, so I put it in the oven and the receiver in the freezer and used some threading grease when I put them together. It was a bit of a long way around, but I got it done in an afternoon.
