Talking VFC-AKS74UNDX

Im Planning on buying a VFC ak74un but I see that none of the Canadian retailers carry that gun, Im just wondering if anybody knows a retailer in Canada that carrys that gun, and also If I can get some feedback from people who have the gun about the quality of the gun, or if anybody knows any good review links. Thank you.

We actually have one in stock at ASCA, it's sort of secret inventory right now... which is a codeword for we haven't had time to update it to the website.

Since you're in Toronto you could come check it out if you're interested (and get age verified while you're there) - although I have a feeling just mentioning it here is going to generate a couple of PMs, and ultimately decided in ritual combat to the death.

It's a great gun, it has it's faults to be sure, but as far as AK's go it is the most impressive one I've ever handled, over all. I can't wait to see CA steel and wood AK, but for now VFC's is pretty spectacular.

We've got the one left for $900 before tax.

This thread is probably better relegated to PMs...

900 Before tax? After tax would be $1035.

Why dont you take this to Private Messages? You should have started by emailing retailers. One retailer even replied to you and said they had one in stock. Even invited you to come, see, and get age-verified.

How much guiding by the hand do you require?

Well, I will actually add something of value to this topic as I do own one of these fine AEG's.

The airsoft ohio review pretty much sums it up. Great AEG, very solid, I paid around $900 for mine from A&A Airsoft in Manitoba. The cocking handle is not attached to the AEG like it is on a TM AK. Depending on how exactly you are holding the AEG when you open up the receiver cover, the cocking handle and a few associated parts will have a tendancy to fall off the AEG.

First time it happened was very much a WTF??!!?? moment. Doesn't really take much to overcome this minor issue, just a bit of practice and keeping in mind you have to be careful in the field if doing battery changes as you might have some parts falling onto the ground, or into the mud or snow, or whatever. I wonder why VFC designed it this way, some way of holding those parts onto the AEG would have been a better way to go I think.

The standard version has plastic front handguards. The deluxe version has wood front handguards and a unique serial number and free extra bonus serial numbers on a few of the other parts.

WGC now stocks the wood handguards for around $50 US, the VFC made scope mount for I think around $100 US, the VFC fake suppressor is also around $100.

So far I have managed to restrain myself from excessive tinkering with this AEG. I think it would look way nicer with black front handguards but I just can't bring myself to doing the typical Blackalashnikov krylon paint job to the handguards. Yet. I managed to rig up a tactical light mount using a shotgun sling mount. Workable but probably not very realistic if that's what you are into. Supposedly VFC is making a RIS front handguard for it, but there is nothing yet about such an item on either the VFC or WGC web sites.

Have not chrono'd mine yet, since I have had it I have only used it in one game and it didn't see a whole lot of action that day. Like the reviews say, it can take a very long stick battery instead of just the usual sized one. Nice heavy duty fuse, and it's easy to get at. I do believe it can use 14mm -'ve threaded accessories, there appears to be an adapter over the 14mm threads that takes it up to the 24mm or whatever the real one has. STAR AK 74 midcaps fit and feed reliably in it, although some of the STAR midcaps I own are tighter than others. But they are also like this on a TM AEG too so it's probably something with STAR's quality control.

Expensive? Oh, yes.

Quality? Oh, yes.

AKS 74U? Right now your options for an AKS 74U AEG of any sort are fork out the money for a Guarder conversion kit (if you can find one) and a TM AK47S for parts, or try to modify a TM to something close (you can get half-assed close like I did, or very close like Kokanee has), or buy the VFC. Hopefully someone else will make some cheaper versions of this AEG in the future. All steel and all wood make for some very nice AEG's but so far I have also had pretty good satisfaction from monkey metal and fake plastic wood TM AK's too.
