Interest check: Airsoft minigun
Hey there,
I've been creating some preliminary designs for an airsoft minigun (fps varying from a harmless 350 with 0.2g plastic to a potentially deadly 490 with 0.88g steel  ) and I'd like to make a prototype. As you are surely aware, it won't be cheap (in terms of both time and money). It would certainly help if I knew that there is some commerical interest in a (reliable and powerful) airsoft minigun. Anyway, I suppose my question is, would you buy an airsoft minigun, and what would pay for it? Any and all feedback is appreciated. |

I would not be interested.
1. Cost - if you are building them, they would have to be worthwhile to build (time) + Materials = high cost 2. Weight - For it to be realistic enough it would be big and heavy, not something I would carry around all day (as a mounted weapon, that is a different story) 3. Practicality - the engagement distances in airsoft would put anyone carrying it at a disadvantage of speed and agility. It would be awesome to have, and I am sure there would be plenty of people interested in owning one, however I would only see it as a collector piece than a skirmish weapon. Having said that, I have never used an M249 so perhaps people who have used those would have a different opinion.

I would be intrested, as long as it can fit more than a few thousand bbs and fire full auto without jamming and comes with a bipod.

Not interested. I'm sure you can do it, but the cost would be impractical, as would its size/wieight for most games (unless it's just going to be stationary for the most part, but that doesn't happen). Unless you're not going to be realistic... but then what's the point of making it a minigun?

Depends on the cost. I wouldn't mind carrying this all day that much. I hope the RoF would be insane

I think it would be a very interesting project, i see it being more practical as a stationary weapon, they could be purchased by the community and then used as stationary weapons on local fields.

I think you should go ahead and make a prototype anyway and then see how many people would be interested. Show people pictures, tell them a bit about how it works, show firing/fps test results, and anything else about it people might want to know. At the very least, if not enough people are interested at that point, you could keep it and use it yourself.

Things to keep in mind weight, size, rof, bb propulsion system, build material and such. We cant wager a guess on price unless we know all the details

As black orchid said build it first. Then you will gather interest once the unit actually exists. Alot of people make threads about building the damn thing and whether there is interest, no one has ever gone through with it and actually built the unit.
So my advice is to build it. See how it works. Then broadcast it to the community. You will then recieve much more interest by doing it this way. |

Who already has one built, Q Project or something? Maybe you can ask them for help, save on some R&D cost. Be nice if they sold DIYS kits.
