thats an awsome description of why pnenom, do you own one? if not how can you say no if you dont actually know, if you do, why couldnt you take the time to explain why/why not? just because it doesnt say tm, doesnt automatically mean its shit. i like to hear what other compnies are trying to do, i just think its a waste of time to post a two letter post, just a pet peeve, and it makes you look like a tm fanboy. (not ripping on you, just merly saying its kinda stupid)

I didn't even know Acedemy had any other AEGs...
Or is it a spring gun you're talking about? |

I answered one of his questions whether it's on par with TM and CA, simply no, and that question didn't ask why. I'm not a TM fanboy by far, but I don't hesitate recommending new airsofters to go with the more established brands. Either way, my one word answer gave him the answer he was looking for more than your long post, doesn't it? |

Academy is a Korean plastic model company that just happens to make some "airsoft" guns. I've had a few and seen more and I wouldn't recommend them as a playable guns. They can certainly be made ot work "better" but in the end, with the time, labor & money spent, you're better off getting a gun made by a company that makes airsoft guns full time. If you want good 1/35 & 1/48 scales model kits, they make some really good ones, but their 1/1 scale guns are more wallhangers than anything else. About the only gun they had that was worth getting was the L85 because it was the only one around. But now STAR have their's and it kicks the shit out of Academy's.

But barefoot if you absolutely want a M4a1as your main gun you can go wrong with the TM one, since it is easily upgradeable and fixable. There is also ICS that make a good one, a bit more expensive but it is full metal. Try to find some reviews on those. Still it depends on the money you can/want to spend as a first gun. Good luck in your search.

the reason i'm asking the questions in this thread is because there are those who are knowledgeable about academy m4ai who gave favorable reviews on the gun, and i wanted to hear the opinions of others in the know.
to be clear, we are talking here of academy m4a1, not other academy aeg models. |

here is a review of academy m4a1 (posted by pyromaster in ACM Games Review Forum):
"academy m4a1 is patterned from TM M4A1 & ICS. It has a relax switch for convenience in spring relaxing. The only magazine that fits in the gun, aside from its stock mag, is the R6 magazine. Its stock motor is japan-made (it looks like EG700). It has steel gears so i think it could handle an SP130 spring. But to be safe, the use PDI190 is advised. Someone brought his academy m4a1 to me for repair a repair job, had an SP 140 installed in his gun. The gears didn't break but the piston body did. Again to be on the safe side, better use PDI190. Its going to be worse if its the gears that to break. Systema gears are quite expensive." |

Comparison between Academy M4A1 and TM M4A1 (courtesy of pyromaster who posted this in ACM Games Review Forum):
Here are the advantages & disadvantages of this gun as compared to TM. ACADEMY M4A1 vs TM M4A1 PROS: 1. sturdy gearbox 2. steel gears 3. strong spring ( I'll say PDI170) 4. markings are accurate 5. japan-made motor 6. good adjustable stock (mas ok ang plastic material) 7. sturdier upper reciever ears 8. metal bushing 9. ported piston head 10. relax switch 11. bolt opens when c*cked (just like the TM's) 12. feels almost like a TM (sometimes better) CONS: 1. Mag is not interchangeable to other hi-end brands 2. hop-up assembly is not compatible to any other hiend brands 3. hop-up packing doesnt have a (straight tube lang) 4. uses an mp5 air nossle instead of an m4 nossle ** 5. cylinder is a bit smaller (may ishe-shave ka pang konti kung maglalagay ka ng alum cylinder head) 6. end of the barrel (connected to the hop-up assembly) is encased in plastic so replacing the barrel cannot be done not unless you have the barrel custom-made (ex. edgi barrels) or you replace the whole hop-up assembly. **not sure if this is a con |
