HELP! TM PSG1 Wiring Question.

My buddy had his gun built (using the Systema 300% PSG1 kit) by a local shop who just did a piss-poor job. Basically, at the last op we went to, it started smoking. Obviously, there was a cross somehwere and the wiring was probably severly melted. Anyway, we ripped it apart and I'm working on the electrical portion of the gun right now.

I tapped the battery to the motor (using some extra wire) and it spun it real nice but when I plugged it into the wiring harness coming off the gearbox, it started smoking. I went through and re-soldered/rewired everything and everything seems to be fine (no more smoking). The only problem is that the circuit board is toast. One of the transistors cracked and I tried to re-solder on some new ones but the board is basically junk. Everyone is sold out of the board (that comes witht he wiring) so we need to find an alternate method to fix this.

I was told by the owner of the Airsoft shop we went to (and by his techs) that we do not need that circuit board to get it to fire. He said that without the board, the selector plate becomes the resistor (but it gets hot). I picked up a new selector plate (polycarb) and have everything together but my question is this:

How do I wire it to bypass the circuit board? The only wire I need to connect somewhere is the tiny red wire that attaches to the selector plate on one end and the the other end is the now removed circuit board.

Any tips or help would be much appreciated, I'm trying to have this gun ready by tomorrow.

Sounds to me like the stock wiring in it wasn't able to handle the increased current the motor draws to pull back that 300% spring. Too much current will melt the wire and smoke it. Need to rewire it with at least #16 gauge wire. That's what the fuse is for, to protect the wiring, and cut the motor.

Wasn't aware the PSG-1 had a circuit board. What transistor is on there, and what did you replace it with?

Actually, the quality of the wires wasn't the problem, the problem was the hokey-pokey job they did while re-assembling the gun. They kinked some wires, leaving a positive wire grounding againsed the gearbox...bad news. The circuit board actually came with low-resistance, high-quality wiring (all part of the Systema 300% kit). The circuit board's purpose is to regulate the voltage to ensure the gun has the right juice to fire. According to the shop, we can ditch the board and go with a more powerful battery using the selector plate as the regulator.

That sucks. Wish I had at least some info for you, just felt like helping with the wire issue.

The last time I saw a PSG-1 with the 300% kit, it had all kinds of problems. First, it was extremely overpowered to play against anyone. Well above 500fps.
Second, it needed a battery that was more powerful than recommended; that lead to wiring and fitting problems.
Third; it chewed through at least one set of gears, then an entire mechbox. It spent more time on the bench than in a game.

Now unless my memory fails, Foxtail finally managed to replace the mechbox and put the darned thing back down to a saner power level.

It's a nice gun, but a 300% kit is overkill.

I'd change the spring back down to some level no more than 400fps as soon as possible. Otherwise get ready to toss lots of money at it.

It's actually my buddy's gun and I told him the same thing but the thing is that my CA36K will make almost the same range as a stock PSG-1. In the games we play in, there are no limitations to any sniper rifle, people bring out 615fps rifles. Plus, there are many people out there with the 400% kit in the PSG-1 and have zero issues. The problem was the shop where he purchased the gun, they did a crappy job and now he's having crappy results.

Damnit. :-D

If your location was in your profile, we might be able to direct you to local help...
615fps? I hope you are not in Canada.

Im having much the same issue as you, but I do have one piece of information which may help, when you eliminate the circuit board you have to switch the wires on the gear box around Black>Red, Red>Black, as accourdint to the instructions from the systema FTK (If you want i can send a scan of it for you) the only problem is that i can't remember which wire was origionaly atached to the selector plate and the insructions from the FTK doesn't specify what wire was attached.

This link shows the wiring in square 19 the only problem is that i dont read Japanese hope it helps
http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/artic.../psg1/psg9.jpg

Also lemme know if you find out what wire is attached to the selector plate.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I was told the same info from the Shop who originally installed the Systema kit. They didn't have the original wiring neither. I spent about an hour wiring everything using some logic with how the wires/selector plate/trigger interface and was having some luck but haven't finished it yet. If you ever get it done, please post a pic of the wiring!

Thanks!!!!
