Rememberance Day: A pittance of time...

Of all places, I found this posted in the off-topic section of a football forum.

Not sure if you've seen this yet, but its worth a look. In this day and age, people get caught up in other things and forget about the sacrifices of those before us, and the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform today.

Please do NOT turn this into a political flamefest. This is just my small part to ensure that Remeberance Day is not forgotten.

That's awesome. Thank you for sharing that Arnisador.

As a member of the CF, and a Canadian citizen, Rememberance Day has always had a special place for me. I've never been to a ceremony that I didn't get a little choked up. I was really hoping to have my courses and paperwork done to participate in the ceremonies this year, but alas it won't happen, however next year I plan on attending, in uniform, and participating in the service in my city. It's something that I've always felt strongly about and nothing will make me happier than the day I can pay tribute to those who served as a fellow member of the CF, rather than simply a civilian. It's a debt I don't think anyone can ever fully repay save in never taking for granted the sacrifices made.

Lest we forget,
-Pete

Truth Duty Valour, Blow out your bugles over the rich dead for there's none of these so lonely and poor of old but dying has made us greater gifts than gold.

Tomorrow, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of this 11th month, stop everything that you are doing and give a moment of silence. Remember the loved ones, the courageous, the brave ones who gave their lives so that we may have our "freedom".

Freedom is not free, because it was paid dearly by the lives of men and women of the armed forces.

Remember them.

We participate in what is only very small simulation of what they went through, where respawns are a part of the game.

For them, it was not an option, nor a reality.

Remember them. If you see a vet tomorrow, shake his hand, buy him a drink, and say "Thank you. Thank you for what you have done."

'Never was so much owed by many to so few.' - Winston Churchill

I'm sure many of us have been in similar situations and felt the urge to STRIKE the person. I know I have. The problem is, many of these people aren't uneducated re: 11/11/11, but simply think they're above it. That arrogance is both infuriating and nearly impossible to recitfy, even with a well placed fist to the mouth.

The origin of the song?
Quote:
When eleven o'clock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the "two minutes of silence" to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect.

Terry's anger towards the father for trying to engage the store's clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was later channeled into a beautiful piece of work called, "A Pittance of Time".
