Time to upgrade to a UHF
Basicly after upgrading most of my gear to real deal stuff I thought it would be time to upgrade from my moto t7100 to a UHF but.
Basicly I need advice on a UHF thats programmable to also work in the FRS/GMRS frequencies. Im looking at a ICOMs, KENWOODs, MOTOROLAs, etc... This caught my eye on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-UHF-Keypad-Pr...QQcmdZViewItem It looks intresting but I have no idea on the quality. With a new radio that means I need a new headset I want a TASC headset but $600 for a headset makes me cry  |

Now "technically" you should have your amature radio liscence to be transmitting at 4w on those frequencies (the legal unliscenced power is 1w I believe) but as long as you stick to the FRS/GMRS frequencies you shouldn't have any troubles.
Good find though ! - Quantis

Eddy, ODP from BCAC just put in a group order for some good quality Kenwood knock-offs. You won't be able to join the order as it's already finished but send him a PM and ask him for the info. I'm sure he'll help you out.

*insert shameless self-promotion here*
Don't bid. Why? I'm going to go make a wire transfer to a wholesale supplier, and I'll be getting UHF radios myself, along with lapel ptt mics. The radios *should* be in within a week as soon as I make the wire transfer to my (new) wholesaler.

The police and authorities get right pissed if you diddle around and have conversations on the UHF frequencies. So if you use them just try and use some proper terminology.
Interogative Tango=What time is it? Interogative Posytrap=Where are you? That's the fun stuff we learn on the VHF course.

Kenwood TH-G71A is a great set. Unlock it easily (unsolder one diode) for access to the GMRS and MARS bands.

BTW, I'd recommend against that seller. Transaction went great, such as the feedback shows. However, after-purchase support isn't even there. Five emails later, I'm getting the feeling he just doesn't care. Not to mention, even if I mentioned I wanted to purchase further accessories.
