GHK Ak105 vs AKM/LCT part compatibility?
Hi just wondering if anyone knows if there's any difference between GHK's AK105 and AKM asides from aesthetics. Are there any performance differences ie. better performance from one as compared to the other?
I've done a bit of googling but there doesn't seem to be much information comparison wise between the two so I'm curious to see if its just a difference in appearances or not. Also, are LCT parts, specifically LCT foreends compatible with GHK's AK series at all? I know there's a number of custom shops namely Hephaestus and TAF that have "custom" GHK AK variants built using LCT parts but I have no idea if its drop-in changes or heavily modified LCT parts made compatible with the GHK platform. Sorry if the first question sounds somewhat "dumb" but I just couldn't find any information regarding this topic. Appreciate any input from GHK owners! Thanks! |

GHK AK GBBs have screw-in barrels. LCT AEG barrels are retained by set-screws. Correct me if I'm wrong but IMO they are not compatible.

Thanks Latvian, good to know. Watched a dis-assembly video of a LCT kit and a GHK AKM but it didn't click in my head until you said it.
So short of the barrel I'd assume the rest of the fore-end parts should be compatible? Ie. sub a steel barrel from samoon with the one in the LCT fore-end kits, cut it down and re-thread if needed and viola? I'm not familiar with the AK platform so again this might be a stupid question... |

From what I've seen, yes. The rest should be compatible. Pins and screws are in the same place. Note that on LCT AKs the muzzle end of the barrel is not threaded. The front sight assembly and flash hider are one piece so you could cut an LCT barrel down without having to rethread the muzzle end.

Awesome stuff, didn't know about LCT barrels not being threaded. Would definitely save a bit of work if I decided to go down that route in the future.
Also I hope you don't mind my asking Latvian, but since you seem pretty familiar with GHK's AK series I was wondering if you know how to differentiate a first gen AKM (2011-2012?) from the improved second gen AKM's (2013?). I've been trying to get some information on it but there doesn't seem to be much out there. I know that the bolt and internals are different and the magazines as well (Not sure if the 7.62 magazines are different but I know the 5.45 mags have a different feed lip) but I have no idea what the differences are specifically as there doesn't seem to be comparisons between the two widely available. I found what I know on a thread on gasguns.info but its quite vague and relates to the AK105 specifically so I don't know how much of that pertains to the AKM. |

The bolt carrier spring guide retainer is made of steel on the 2013's, earlier years are pot metal.

Honestly I didn't even know they changed anything. I know the REALLY old GHK AKs were closed-bolt and are totally different and awful, but I own two GHK AKM - one AKM and one AKMS and I've owned an AKMSU which I sold and they were all the same in terms of construction. They have pot metal trigger groups, dust-cover-retaining buttons, but other than that 99% steel. I truly believe the GHK AK is the best airsoft gun ever made. If there were more in country I'd buy them. Even the way they were engineered is beautiful, especially compared to the WE.

Thanks Kokanee, I'd assume the pot metal isn't magnetic so I could test it out with a magnet to verify if its a 2013 correct?
I've had my eye on GHK's line of GBBR's for a while, they definitely make some of the best airsoft guns out there. I sort of want to modify the AKM a bit, mainly replace the fore-end with a 104 gas block and flash hider, chopped barrel to fit and vented upper hand guard. Don't know if it counts as blasphemy for an AK as the 100 series all have folding stocks and different receivers but it would be different. Did you end up replacing any of the internals with RA-tech parts? I know there's quite a bit of discussion on upgrades but it seems like most of the stock guns run with the least amount of issues. Not sure if its the upgrades or maintenance the owners put in but that seems to be the case from what I've read. Oh and apparently GHK has a brand new M4 GBB in the works right now, so glad I waited and didn't get the WE M4 CQB. |

You should slap a folding German/Romanian stock on it. They are drop-in stocks and you will end up with an MPi-74NK! |

Hm... having a love/hate moment with the MPi-74NK, its definitely different but not a big fan of that wire stock, prefer something a bit beefier like the polish beryl stock. But good to know its a drop in change, always nice to have more options!
