First Gun Help

Hey, I've never played airsoft before, and I'm attempting to dive right in!

I'm having trouble deciding what gun to buy. I'm looking for an M4 style AEG, under $600. It needs to have a rail system around the barrel for a foregrip and flashlight. I would also like it to be under 813mm/32in. (it's no big deal if tax and shipping brings it over 600)

There's so many to choose from, and it seems like all the websites never have the same gun to make price comparisons... Wouldn't all the manufacturer's with guns over $400 have the same build quality anyways...?? I guess I don't know what specific things to look for and I need some help.

EDIT* I bought the VFC HK416. I was about to buy the G&P MRP M4, but then i read about people having issues with the internals on the first day, and i didn't want to deal with that.

Personally, I wouldn't go for the SRC. I've heard great things about the King Arms M4s in general but at that point, it comes down to personal preference. You might also want to check out the classified section once your age verified if you would consider used.

Nooooooo that's a terrible idea lol
Buy a stock KA M4 then add on to it. Building your own gun will cost way more and be a huge pain.
G&P is also high quality for externals, but much more than a KA
Also good on you for having a realistic price range
Manufacturers all have different mentalities on how to build a gun. Like everyone makes a ~$15000 compact car, but some are total lemons lol

alrighty. sound advice... what i'm thinking now is to buy a gun with great external quality and just use it til it wears out...then upgrade it. Does that sound like a good idea?

i was snooping around reddit on r/airsoft, and in one thread people were saying VFC had the best external quality. The VFC HK416 fits my description and it's around $450... am i on the right track?

Yeah, definitely stay away from building your own gun as a way to get started. Especially if it's an armalite. Things don't always line up, excessive wobble etc.
VFC has pretty good internals. HK 416s in general take allot of wobble out of the RAS. No matter what you buy, the internals will eventually break/wear out, and need to be replaced. It's just a matter of how long. I tend to go with best externals as I usually end up replacing most of the internals with performance parts anyways, but I'm good with opening up and trouble shooting my guns.

ok, so now that I have the HK416 nailed down as a viable option, is there any other brand with very good external quality? (besides G&P which i'm checking out now)

If i was going to buy a HK416 right now, I would go VFC.

VFC has great external quality and their internals are nice too (you may even luck out and get a nice Neo magnet motor). VFC also has great customer support, you just email them with a replacement parts list and they get back to you and ship pretty quickly (This is ideal when you loose that hard to find part - my most recent being the leaf spring and rear sight for my VFC AK).

I also like VFC as the upgrade path is nice and simple. You star with some nice Taiwanese parts and go from there. You can put 60$ into it after the fact (Tougher piston / Sorbo pad / mosfet / new hop rubber) and run an 11.1 in the stock for a nice and snappy trigger.

Besides FCC, I think VFC (umarex) is the only other company that makes a good 416

Well if you had to pick which one between those four... I would pick the G&P. I myself have my eye on the G&P C8 Carbine. I am just waiting for my paycheck... I find the M4 variations the most versatile for additions such as tac lights, lasers, foregrips, M203's etc. Also this is an $800 rifle on sale, I myself would consider taking advantage of it. Hey, look at some reviews on youtube, even if they're american it doesn't matter, it's still in most cases the same rifle. Hope this helps coming from a fellow newbie.

good choice on the 416... rail system included, monolithic, probably the nicest externals for a 416 on the market.

All airsoft is a roll on the dice for internals, even high end stuff can break, but I'd still pay for the vfc over the g&p anyways.

I got into the game last year. All the advice said "King Arms Full Metal M4". This was sound and useful advice. It's a solid gun, on it's second season stock from box. The internals are solid and it's a great platform to pick things up here and there and modify it as you go. I love it stock with iron sites.

The price point is amazing (around $250) and Toronto Airsoft has a deal on them right now to get a free charger. This year I plan on buying an extended barrel and a mock suppressor to increase FPS and provide some improved accuracy. Then I plan on doing a full camo paint job on it. You can do so much with the platform and the price point is completely worth it. You can spend $400-$600 if you like on JUST a gun. But you will need to get some other goodies, like solid protective gear. Boots ($150) and full seal goggles (revisions at $100) are a must, and I put a good pair of gloves ($40) right in there too. Face protection (for your teeth and ears, i use a combat wrap - about $10). You can get a good set of combat clothing for $80 and a good vest with built in M4 pouches for about $40. That will take you to about $600 and you will have EVERYTHING you need to jump straight in and start having some fun.

If your running M4 then you should grab some cheap mid cap mags ($10-$20 each) (hold about 120 bb's, get 3) and run those instead of the hicaps. You'll be glad you did when your trying to sneak around. For the real "Simulation" games, some may frown on that. Tell em to buy you 10 30 round mags and move on with your day and enjoy the GAME.

This is my M4. It's just every other M4, but this one is mine.

I could be wrong... but probably, most likely not, as far as I know.
