Making maps

Not sure if this is the right place to post a question about maps, but here we go:

So my friends and I want to create maps, with a grid, to plan our attacks essentially. It's been created, printed, and looks great - the question I have is how can I make it weather resistant, while still allowing it to be able to fold and stay portable? Laminating would make folding a pain.

Is there something I can use to make them last longer in the field? Spray, nail polish, anything. Dpes anyone else have experience with this sort of thing?

Google map pouches, I have one from Condor and it works really well.

How big is the map?

I'd suggest intel pouch or an armband, but if your map is huge, that won't work.

You could also look into getting the maps printed on waterproof substrate, but that can get pricey.

I print map on 9.5x11 standard sheet And slip it in a plastic sheet protector, folds fine and is water proof

MACtac. That's what the CF uses for their maps, and from what I understand can be bought civvie side. It's used as shelf liner, and you can buy it at staples.

Yup, or the stuff they use in elementary school to protect their art projects...
I'll ask someone about this tomorrow, she works in this domain (furniture and stuff, like staples).

Not with god damn alphabit soup.
If you say the objective is in A9, that's a WHOLE grid I have to search in.
Whereas if you say grid 916 944, I know exactly where you are talking about

You could try something like Nikwax map seal or a similar product. I recall MEC selling this stuff a number of years ago but I haven't looked for it in a while.

Just get a mapcase. It will also hold stuff like china markers, sharpies, note pad, radio freqs etc. You can strap it to your gear, put it in a pants pocket etc.

You can print out sketch maps, google earth photos or anything else and tuck it into the case.

most airsoft field are so small, maps are of limited value.

I always give out maps to players at games I host, most don't use them

The dollar store has what is called "maptac". Its an adhesive page protecting material, when you sandwich the map in it it's waterpoof. Find it in the stationary supplies section of a dollarama.

There are purpose built plastic sheet map "bags" that are waterproof/etc....roll them up/fold them/write on them with markers/etc... (grease pencils work nicely)

Or use a large zip loc lunch baggie.
