Fail goggles from Evike - ALWAYS WEAR PROPER EYEPRO

Quote:
This weekend my local field experienced one of the worst things that can happen during a game, one of the things every player dreads. A player's goggled failed. A BB punctured through his eye protection and penetrated the player's eye. The player in question was wearing these goggles:

These are also marketed as Voodoo Tactical goggles. Note that these are NOT ANSI rated. Please be aware of of your eye protection purchases. This is one area of our sport you can not afford to skimp on.

Admin should sticky this in the newbie section or general section for those who want to buy cheap knockoffs. The idea of cheapening out on eyepro is so ridiculously stupid it's not even funny.

ALL players should ALWAYS test their eyepro point blank at 400 fps. I never trust eyewear even if it has a rating stamped onto it, could easily be fake Chinese crap.

+1 for newbie tank sticky

A sticky won't do anything. How many newbie players or even experienced players is going to read it and take it seriously.

I tell people in person not to wear eyewear not is not approved and especially mesh, and they just ignore me.

It should be the responsibility of the field operator not allow players to use non-approved goggles. Also responsible retailers should not sell them either.

China will stop making them if no one is allowed to use it or sell them.

Sorry to hear the player got hurt....

I would take this as another case of " Buyer beware "

For $30 how reliable can they be?

I strongly encourage new players to save up and spend the money on proper safety gear..

$200 IMO is not alot for quality ESS Fan goggles or something comparable...

Agree that a stickie will not be a comprehensive way to get information read...but it is better than nothing if it's accurate/complete/targeted/etc...

The field owner and host should set the standards...not hard and not complicated. After that, by signing off that they agree to the field/game rules the players are acknowledging that they're using proper eyepro. That may/may not hold water if push comes to shove in court though. Again...a prudent base-level thing to do though.

I do not think that it's practical to have the field operator/host regulate eyewear...unless they provide it. It's impractical to quickly eyeball goggles and say..."hey, those are knock off clone lenses that won't stop a shot". It's impractical to "shoot test" them for each game...since doing so compromises the lense. Bolle T800 goggles with Bolle lenses are hard to distinguish from clone (Guarder I think) lenses. They're different...but you've got to inspect them.

Even with PB goggles for PB...ALL fields simply state, "must use PB goggles (paraphrase)...either yours or ours". They don't inspect/test/validate any of the ones players bring to games.

If it's pressed as an issue...we'll see a lot more of "PB goggles only", which would be a shame.

Well..the guys who cheap out on sub-standard eyepro will never see eye to eye with others on this issue....

I agree that someone losing an eye is a tragedy. Every effort toward stopping these incidents are justified. I bet that as a sport we probably have the fewest incidents of eye injury. This means that we are doing a pretty good job of policing this.

that's why I don't buy safety equipment from a vendor that stocks it right beside the knockoff gear, unless it's known to be legit gear. Airsoft goods are so sketch, why would anyone trust something so pivotal to the hands of the lowest bidder from a company that has the ability to disappear over night and suddenly and reappear somewhere else under a new name?

I don't put it past those knockoff companies to stamp a fake ansi on that shit either.

remember what you pay for in the 55$ product vs the 30$ clone is that the product has gone through a certification process and is deemed to meet that standard. Not because it's of a certain shape, thickness or material. It's because the company of manufacture has produced a consistent product that sends regular and or random samples to be tested for the requirements of meeting that certification level before getting that stamp or engraving.

Sadly though, a lot of idiots and noobs will still look to save every dollar they can and buy the shit. Sights and magpul accessories are one thing... but they're your FUCKING eyes.

I've tested some safety goggle lenses I want to start using with a 400fps aeg and a 0.177 daisy. The slugs on the daisy just mushroom on the lense but go like butter through 1/4" plywood. ANSI z87.1+ & csa z94.3 certified. Fit over my glasses & are thermal lenses. I feel pretty confident with them. Just need to find a lower face protector I like. And priced at about $35

I am sure a field operator can spot mesh goggles and ban those first.
