That's not an awful product. That's a dummy that does its job as a dummy (ie: look the part from 2m and up).

Of course it won't replace a real arm, and of course it's not as sturdy as a real arm. It's 30$ shipped for fucks sake. Producing that in metal would probably be around 80$, and it'd still be a dummy.

that being said the video does make some good points on the quality but as conker said, 30$ what do you expect. the old adage comes into play "you get what you pay for"

Making molds for metal and making molds for injection molding are two different things IIRC. Metal molds (even pot metal) have to be much stronger than that of plastic injection. I believe this is due to molten metal being substantially higher than molten plastic.

Right, but (please bare with my very limited knowledge of manufacturing processes) wouldn't be it easy for them to build a mould for metal since they already have it in plastic (and perhaps CNC drawings)?

From my also limited knowledge I believe you have to use a much more expensive metal in order to cast metal parts. I think you can use aluminum molds to cast plastic parts, but you need steel molds to cast metal parts and that costs much more to make.
