how did the bellows m60's work?

Hi all most of the ASC posts that i have found, are from around 2007 and assume you know how the basics of the ' bellows " mechbox work. I think that maybe explanations from before that are lost in space Anyways back on topic i'm wondering how those old top m60's worked. ( i don't mean 'hey they worked crappy", i mean " part A pushed on part B resulting in ...etc". I have a chance to buy one for 2 bills~ maybe some older gentleman members can remember what i would have to do to slam a modern mechbox in one. Any info would be appreciated.

Check out classicairsoft.org

I'd recommend getting an LRB and keeping it as a classic instead of destroying another piece of history and making it an AEG

edit: if my memory is failing me and TOP used the same internals as STAR, then you have that weird gearbox that is hard to find replacement parts for, but if my memory isn't failing, then I think you can use either a V2 or V3 gearbox in it after some modification

The TOP mechbox is generally similar to a normal gearbox except for the compression mechanism: the piston, cylinder and cylinder head are replaced with a bellows:

You can see it compared to other setups:

Unfortunately the pistol and bellows were known to fail fairly fast on just about every gun. ANGS made some upgrade parts (a large cylinder, also pictured above, and associated piston, etc). PGC made a complete drop-in mechbox replacement for the M249 (which was copied into the CA and later A&K 249s) but I don't recall them making one for the M60 (a quick search will confirm either way). The PGC mechbox used standard V2/V3 parts, but the ANGS kit had a lot of proprietary stuff iirc. (notice the short piston in the pic above, along with the unusual piston head).

But would you pass up a $200 M60? I would get one just for the wall hanger factor.
