ARES AW 338 Spring Power VS Tokyo Marui L96 AWS. Which one to choose?

Hi, I am planning to get my first Spring power sniper rifles,

I have short-listed to choose either:

ARES AW 338 (Spring Power Version);
Tokyo Marui L96 AWS

Any fellow Airsoft lover can give me some idea on which one is best in terms of:
1) Straight out of box, which one has more accuracy and reliable?
2) Straight out of box, which one has more power and can shoot further away?
3) If comes to upgrade, which one has more upgrade parts to choose from?
4) If comes to upgrade, which one is easier to dissemble and do not required DIY parts?

1,3,4 all applies to the Marui L96.

2 applies to ARES as it has the power out of the box.

I currently own the Marui L96 with full PDI upgrades which makes it much superior to the ARES.

In regards of your Marui L96, do you mind sharing which PDI upgrade parts you have done? so that I can work out my budget.

by the way, what is the FPS/Joules does your L96 can achieve after those PDI upgrade? Thx

I'll let boren93 post his upgrades; I just received my brand-new TM L96 in the mail today - needless to say after putting a 100 rounds through I'm quite happy with its out of the box performance. But to be competitive, like me, you'll need to invest roughly another $800 in upgrades.

A good start would be a PDI "tightbore" inner barrel. IMO PDI > Laylax

There's a lot of guys on the forum with experience with these guns - listen to their wisdom. Get Age Verified asap too.

PDI 130 Spring
Creation Aluminum part #40 (Trust me you will need this)
Nineball Hopup

I havent chrono'd the gun in a while but I'll gestimate that it should be in the 450 area.

What does this part do :-?

The part is the reason why it is different from the other L96s. It has a realistic magazine and therefore the mechanism depends on this part to get the BB chambered. The stock part 40 will eventually break once you use it in conjunction with higher springs since it's plastic. However creation as a far as i know has the only metal replacement/upgrade of that part.

Are they true APS2 or VSR-10 based.

TM is based on a 308 caliber AI gun -> L96
ARES is based on a 338 -> L115

Both gun uses VSR-10 hopup AFAIK.
Both gun have correct magazine well placement (unlike most spring powergun)
TM have more aftermarket support.

TM is difficult to get and pricey to get in Canada.

I can get a Ares AW338 quickly. Other than the hop up, can other VSR-10 upgrades fit it? Does it have any funny proprietary parts on it like their AEGs?

TM L96 uses a whole new setup. The parts look a lot like VSR-10 type, but are not (the cylinder and insides are shorter, the hop-up unit is different, the trigger kit is VERY similar, but different enough to cause issues with an upgrade kit made for the VSR-10).

The ARES is a random bunch of parts, most are proprietary, some are VSR-10...

I was never a fan of Ares to begin with. Had a used Ares 338 given to me and I was about to get at new one just because the externals look so nice. I did look at the internals and it didn't look 100% VSR10. What a bummer.

What choices do I have if I want TM VSR10 compatibility? Got some prices from a few dealers for a TM VSR-10, priced so high, I might as well get the new VFC 338 that is about to ship to North America soon.

The ARES WA2000 is VSR compatible from what I've heard. The ASW338 however isn't fully VSR-10 compatible. The gun itself is very difficult to disassemble, and the carbonfibre really isn't carbonfibre (but very similar to it according to KhanSeb of youtube). According to most people on other forums VFC could have done a lot better.
