KWC / Cybergun Mini Uzi v.2 (2011)

So here we go with my first review on ASC. Up for review is my newly acquired Mini Uzi.

To start off the box is... a box. I really don't worry too much about the box. After the gun comes out of the box I put it in my garage until I sell the gun (which hasn't happened yet) or when I need some thing to start a fire in my backyard when I am having a few beers. At least now I know how to say "Do not sell this gun to teenaged ruffians" in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Now opening the box reveals a Mini Uzi, 1 C02 magazine, a hex tool for the magazine screw in floorplate, 1 spare plastic round magazine floorplate and a sight adjustment tool. Oh and the small box of grenade quality bb's.

A brief inspection of the gun reveals that the body of the gun, grip, forward grip, trigger and trigger guard are polymer. The outer barrel, stock, top dust cover, charging handle, magazine, sling swivels and knurled hop up adjustment knob are metal. The gun with empty magazine weighs in at 4.8 lbs. The magazine itself empty weighs in at 1.0 lb.

The gun came with an orange plastic shroud flashider glued to the outer barrel that lasted about 5 minutes of my ownership.

To take down the gun you have to press the retention slide under the rear sight, then pull up on the top dust cover. Most of the internals of this gun are metal. I removed the bolt, it appears to be metal (coated aluminum I would guess). The bolt is quite large in size and weighs 0.8 lbs. This attributes to the fairly strong blowback recoil of this gun. As with most SMG's of this type the bolt surrounds the barrel. It is fairly similar in design to the KWA M11A1 for those of you who are familiar with that gun. The recoil spring fits into the bolt and is held by a round pocket in the body of the gun at the rear.

The operating controls for this gun are as follows:

Grip safety which works as the real steel. You have to have a positive grip on the gun and depress the safety in the rear of the grip for the gun to fire.

Standard British style selector switch on the driver's side of the gun. "ARS" (Automatic, Repeat or Semi, Safe) The selector was very stiff but is getting easier with use.

Magazine release on the drivers side lower grip.

Charging handle on the top of the gun as most of this style of SMG are.

Hop up is adjusted with the knurled knob surrounding the barrel in front of the reciever which would hold the barrel in on the real steel. Easy for adjusting, with the downside it may be adjusted unknowingly while in game play.

The gun has trades similar to the real steel found on the drivers side at the rear of the reciever.

MINI UZI 6mm
IMI
MU-CB 10815721

I did not check the other guns the retailer had to see if the serial was unique to this gun.

The passenger side of the grip has the usual "Made In Taiwan" marking.

One of my concerns was the actual gameability of this gun as I was reading various reports on the internet of +500 FPS and even the box states 509 FPS (on .12's. I am constantly annoyed with the manufacturers stating FPS on .12's on their packaging. WHY?). So we did definately want to chrono this gun and see what we got. We chronoed the gun indoors at room air temperature on .20's and observed 384 - 403 FPS over about 10 shots. I can report we got 2+ magazines of bb's for one C02 cartridge on semi and short burst fire. Obviously firing a full mag to empty will vary this consumption due to cool down effect. I play at a private sub 450 FPS field so this gun is good to go.

The gun feels good in my hands. I even like the stock folded forward once you get used to it. You do have to wrap your fingers around it and pull it in as it does tend not to securely lock. Not that it flops around but it could get pulled out by brush or whatever. It seems to lock better in the extended position.
The underside of the front handguard has some flash which is a little sharp and could probably use a little fine sanding. I wear gloves in play anyways so this is probably moot.

The gun is fun to shoot. It has a decent rate of fire, obviously not going to be a M11A1 with the size and weight of the bolt. Sorry guys I forgot to get RPS off the chrono. The recoil is fairly intense, you can actually visibly see it if you watch someone firing this gun.

So in closing for the price point of under $300, this is a pretty cool SMG. I can't say I would play it every game, but it is something different for the arsenal and I expect it to be an excellent SMG / backup gun. I have not gamed the gun yet or shot it outdoors so I cannot comment on range or accuracy yet, but hey it is an Uzi. Not gonna take out a sniper at 200 yards.

This gun is bigger than I expected. It surprised me when I took it out of the box. I have no experience with real steel Uzi's, just the plastic Uzi squirt guns we had as kids or the fake Uzi's the guys at the Public Enemy concert were dancing around with. Here is a comparison pic with the KWA M11A1 NS2.

Hope you enjoyed the review!

Great review obsolete!!!

I would like to know, based on your experience with both the KWA M11A1 and KSC UZI, witch one would be the best buy?

Thanks
