Would this flashlight be an over kill?
Since i play at splatters every weekend and i seriously hate the lighting there
so im just wondering will the XTAR R01 CREE R5 5-mode 800lumens be an over kill? or should i just get the 400lumens one.

Is this a serious question or a bad attempt at being funny?

Yea 3800 can actually cause damage to the cornea. My flashlight - i bought one of the armytek predators mainly for the amount of light that it prodces and because i can control the output - is only 500 luman and that is way more than what is needed, But I also use this flashlight for security and a higher output is sometimes needed.

If its an honest mistake then don't worry. 3800 Lumens is too much, anything above 500 Lm is unnecessary for indoors, and more than enough for outdoors (in my opinion). I have a 200Lm flashlight and its more than enough for indoors, a bit unnecessary as well. I'm not out to cause damage to optic nerves, i'm just trying to light my way.

There are no rules regarding flash lights for a reason: The human eye is really frigging adapt to adjusting to natural wavelengths of light (flashlights... the sun...)
Hitting a person with 300lumens from pitch blackness will do several things: 1) They will immediately lose all of their natural night vision. 2) They will see a spot in their vision for the next 5-10 minutes. 3) They will close their eyes/squint/look away. 4) They will pour fire at your conveniently located circle of blinding light. Tactically speaking, indoors, 100 lumens is really all you need. Any more and you're ruining your own vision with backwash from the objects between you and your target. Outdoors, lumens loosely translate to throw, which means you can see objects hundreds of feet away (way outside of your effect engagement range). Outdoors, the only time you should ever use a flashlight is when you literally can't see anything. Where the difference between closing your eyes and opening them is none, and even then you should think twice. A flashlight will get you killed at night far more often than it will keep you alive, let alone actually killing someone. Indoors this is different, properly engaging and disengaging an enemy with a light will keep you alive and prevent them from putting rounds on you. (light on, fire a round, light off, sidestep... as an example). You should not be using the light as a beacon to find an enemy, as you are just that, a beacon of light screaming shoot me. EDIT: I read his post as 270lumen, and I didn't realize it originally said 3800lumen. That's fucking retarded. Hit me with that in CQB and I'd escort you off the field.

Wear less gear. I know guys who have played a long time, and constantly have fogging issues, they have known working anti-fog, good goggles, and fans. But they wear an armor carrier, a softshell, a wool beenie, and thermal underwear. They are warm when they play (even when they stand still) but they overheat, and the only exposed skin is on their face. Their face gets red, they sweat from their head, and their goggles instantly fog. The trick is to wear less shit. Armor carrier? Get a chest rig. BDU, underarmor, softshell? Dump the shit between you and the softshell. Go underarmor and softshell. Or t-shirt and BDU. (This is assuming you're not exposed to the weather. Layer properly to pull sweat from the skin layer and exhust it through breathable outer layers. Wool beanie? I actually like this, I wear one and when I get hot I pull it off to quickly vent head heat and prevent fogging. Need vented protection? Get a protech helmet. Dump the hats. Or if you want a hat, wear it backwards to prevent heat build up between the top of your mask and your hat brim. Using a light to counter act fog will keep you in the respawn and covered in welts. |
