Socom gear daniel defense

Hey, I am somewhat new to airsoft and finally thought it was time to get my own gun and go out and play because I am turning 18 in May. I am really wanting the SOCOM gear Daniel Defense MK18 9.5'' or Omega 7'' or the SOPMOD from my research they all contain the same internals (VFC) and the only difference really is the length in barrel or RIS. I live in Mississauga so not to much forest play although I do know about a great massive forest to play at, but for the most part it's indoors. I am really just asking what you would choose and why.

First, I would choose to read the faq's and get age verified.
Second, I would choose to play at legitimate fields. Playing 'in the massive forest' is a very bad idea as you are violating local bylaws and the police really don't like that.
Third, if you're not 18, you really can't legally own an airsoft gun in Ontario. May as well wait until you're 18.

As far as the gun goes, I prefer the mk18, but that's just me.

Yeah, I know about the age verifying in my city and plan to get that done the day I turn 18. Thanks for your opinion on which gun you would get because it's a toss up I might just stick with the in between and go with the mk18 but I want to see what everyone else has to say. I have wanted to get into airsoft for 3 - 4 years but figured I best wait till I am 18, and now that it's in like 2 - 3 months I am really anxious .

Ye, not asking for you guys to choose for me I am wondering what you guys would choose and why. But it's probably going to be the MK18


And was hoping for someone to give me a little feedback on SOCOM gear and what they know about them. I have done pretty solid research, but opinions are never wrong.

I owned the Socom Gear DD . It would be suitable for a newbie. Any of these would, actually. For indoors and cqb the slightly shorter profile (10.5" barrel) of the mk18 may be preferable to the 14.5" m4 barrel length of the SOPMOD. Ultimately it comes down to operator preference.

On the other hand, the SOPMOD would be a little more accurate because of the longer inner barrel. The external fit and finish of the VFC is also slightly better than the Socom Gear.

If I can offer another choice, I would buy a VFC KAC PDW for about the same price. Perfect for Indoor with the folding stock and shorter cannon with shorter inner barrel. Perfect for outdoor with the stock extended and the other longer outer barrel and inner barrel. Accepts Stanag mags.

Great, I am loving the ideas of what I should get. How do you label a gun newbie? I thought it was solid with the amazing finish from socom gear and Madbull with the great internals from VFC. I thought it couldn't get any better . If you guys can post guns you think I should get then shoot because that's not my final price the gun is 584.99 on Herosurplus but I can scoot to 650 before tax especially if I am waiting till May. So post some guns you think would be a better choice with my price range and where I live.

I have to disagree with the fit and finish being better on the VFC vs Socom Gear. Socom Gear guns are VFC gearboxes with Madbull externals, which are some of the best out there right now.

+1 for the VFC KAC PDW, it's an absolutely outstanding AEG that you will want to tuck under your pillow every night after getting it.

I initially had the DBoys knockoff of the VFC PDW, and through a series of mishaps (all my fault), I ended up having to source the original VFC PDW gearbox as a replacement (ambi selector stuff etc causes it to be the natural replacement choice to ensure fitment).

The internals are quite impressive and the mechbox feels super solid compared to its clone.

I've handled both. VFC is actually better. Nicer metal and paint. Not trying to split hairs, but have you had both side by side for comparison?

As for the PDWs, they are alright but the placement of the battery in a PEQ box up front is discouraging. Again personal preference but batteries should reside in the stock tube or stock itself with the wires hidden, not poking out from the RIS. Want a PDW? Get a GBBR. But for a first time owner, AEG is th way to go.

One last time. You want an airsoft rifle, that's fine. But you really should wait until you're 18 and A/V'd. The allure of the sport isn't fully realized until you can come out to a game with the rest of the members here. Not many hosts allow underagers to play. So, while we are providing opinions and advice, perhaps the most prevalent takeaway is this: hold off for now. Save your money. Come back when you're 18 and you might find new and better rifles for that price. Perhaps something used in the classifieds with enough $$ left over to buy some gear. Or perhaps even a used starters package with everything you need for the same price of a new AEG from a retail shop.

Note that with a bit of work you can make make the PDW and the RDW knockoffs fit a 1000mAh LiPo in the handguard area of this gun. All you have to do is shorten the wiring, switch to Deans, remove the faux gas tube and slide the battery in. It fits and works great, and you can even charge the battery while it is in the gun.

Below is a picture of mine, with the 1000mAh 7.4V G&P LiPo installed in the upper half of the handguard, right above the outer barrel. Note that further work can be done to hide the wiring, but having a bit of the wiring peeking out as "proof" was useful for my purposes

Yeah, I love the Navy Seals and think they are the most bad ass people to live. I personally love the 1998 - 2001 look they had with the Boonie hats and woodland. I plan to get that same kit with the blackhawk vest. As for gun probably going to be the MK18 would be the SOPMOD but that is just to long for CQB. I will be waiting till I hit 18 but it's killing me to wait 2 months. Personally, the PDW is a good gun but not for me, I don't like how it looks and how it would feel locked into my shoulder. Also, 750 bucks is extremely intense and I would be giving an arm and a leg for it.

I vote for WE PDW gasblow back in a regular barrel lenght confuration...not a fan of those batteries in the handguard, just looks unnatural...
