Unmaned surveillance plane for Airsoft

This is a bit over my imagination for airsoft. But it is coming. Remote control, HD camera, real time video trasmission, GPS. Anyone is interested?

I have thought of doing that with one of my rc planes but what stop sme is the thought of how much I would love to shoot one down if it wasn't mine.

Interesting for sure, but how much would the thing be, what range and how long will it operate before the battery runs out?

About having this thing shot - It takes just a rule before the game saying it's totally forbidden to shoot it, unless you want to get banned or something; People would think about shooting the thing twice before they actually do it.

That being said, one could say it take just 1 idiot to shoot it down and ruin an expensive piece of hardware...

There was a similar discussion somewhere around here when the AR Parrot was released.

Price range is $500 to $1000 depends on the cameras etc, the prototype is still in testing and more info will be released soon. 200PCS will be made.

I'd be pretty interested, but it all depends on the specs, battery life, controls and the ease of use.
It would be nice if it had a better battery life than the AR Parrot of 12 mins.

^^

This.

I can build a reasonable UAV with ~15-20 minutes endurance (if flown competently) for about $300-350 (I already have the radio, add $100 to that without it). However I'm 100% sure people would shoot at it, despite any rules to the contrary.

If the airplane is cheap enough (Z-foam) a damaged fuse or wings is cheap to replace... however, one good hit to the Li-Po (airplanes use lipos with no hard casing), receiver, or servo arm could cause the whole thing to come crashing down.

My friend and I looked into it a while back and thought about using one in our private games, but after declarations by several other players that they didn't care and would shoot at anything that could spot them we decided it wasn't worth it.

If you had an FPV system and flew it much higher, more like a UAV than an R/C Plane, it could be practical. But the cost goes up closer to the $1k mark quoted here.

I *could* be interested with more information of its capabilities and exact hardware.

They actually have a thread like this over at ASM. I think it devolved into something like an "ac-130" with a stripped down airsoft gun on it...

That said, I think the larger planes might actually be safer in this case. They can fly higher, hold more weight, and are more stable than the small ones.

One thing that it would be better if it were semi-autonomous (return home, circle, etc), so it doesn't end up like the us losing a sentinel (allegedly) to the iranians...

I go on the field with a real NVG scope, a real EOTech, and a few other real and expensive optics.

Can I please get the no-shoot rule extended to me? My glass is worth more than the UAV, why should I run the risk of having my expensive gear shot at when I can just have a rule put in that I"m off limits.

Sound good? If that sounds ridiculous then re-think the "don't shoot at my expensive toy airplane" idea.

Having an expensive optic mounted on your gun is one thing - you normally get shot at.

Having someone shooting a piece of equipement on purpose, knowing it is expensive, but mostly unnecessary, is just stupid IMO.

Do both teams get a UAV then? Or is going to a who's got the biggest wallet contest?

You want intel you take the risk of that toy being shot down by the ones who will want to keep that intel from you.

Don't want it shot leave it at home same with optics or anything else you bring on to the field.

Plan A) Include an IR god gun that will kill the UAV and have it glide in. The opposition gets the gun and if the UAV comes into range they knock it out of action.

Plan B) One player on the red team will be a human UAV. He'll get a special hat with a propeller. He holds out his arms and makes buzzing sounds as he walks through the blue lines to scope out their situation. You can not be shot when wearing the UAV beanie. Optional, he can be a Reaper UAV so able to stitch up the red side while behind their lines with immunity.
