Mesh masks are frowned upon if you value your eyes, BBs can fracture easily and you'd get dust, or worse, fragments passing through into your eyes. Plus, ever seen what a BB at close range can do to an empty tuna can? It'll dent it, likely you won't find mesh that is stronger than a can...........

Just saying........

Sorry I hate off topic posts as much as anyone but I feel I have to speak up.

Not only do you take a chance running mesh eyepro, you want to make something that will protect your eyes yourself?

I'm all for entrepreneurship, but if that doesn't sound like a bad idea to you, you need to do more research on the energy and dynamics of Airsoft ballistics.

no no its soly for the eyes down, i am not so dumb as to think they would protect eyes. no i am doing mouth and ear protectors, i would never suggest anyone were mesh over their eyes even with saftly glasses behind the mesh.

Well in that case, you could start with what's already out there:

The first that comes to mind is this

Look for welded wire mesh. But as the other folks said once you get the material, cut and shape it, cover the outside, and create a strap to keep it over your teeth the outlay in time and energy might make something like these more sensible.

IMO, get good quality ballistic goggles and mesh mask for your lower face. The mesh is good because you can talk and breathe clearly. With a balaclava or face mask, I find my goggles will fog up more because my breathe is going upwards.

450fps from half a foot will dent the Chinese mesh.

Just goes to show the differences between the two sides of the Atlantic - Here in Scotland not only do quite a few players wear mesh masks we also have a lot of players who wear mesh goggles. In the July and September issues of the Rag we featured competitions by HeroShark (custom mask producer) and the prizes were mesh masks. The mesh masks and goggles that we use in the UK can be shot at point blank range with 400FPS, no hassle, and are regularly used by airsoft sites as hire masks (because they don't get scuffed which is often a problem with lenses). If you are interested in the mesh why not 'Google' HeroShark and ask Sharky what he uses, I'm sure he'd be happy to tell you. Hope you don't mind me throwing a spanner in the works....just wanted to add some food for thought!

The major problem with mesh goggles is not penetration by the bb itself, but the shards and dust of a bb when they break/shatter upon impact. Especially a few bio BB's and lesser quality brands.

The holes are so small, imo there is more risk when not using full seal.

Thanks for that Coachster, I didn't realise that you guys have a problem with that...In the UK all BB's have to comply with European safety legislation, so we don't have BB's that break or shatter - They're illegal. What make of Beebs do you guys use (that shatter when you use them)? Do you get a lot of problems with your mags from the dust off of the beeb's too (we also don't have dusty BB's y'see)

Mesh goggles are not allowed in most clubs here primarily due to the risk of bb fragments hitting the eye, as well as the potential for metal fatigue from multiple bb strikes. It's easier to notice cracked glasses then it is metal fatigue.

Most clubs enforce that eye protection must be ballistic rated (can't remember ansi rating off the top of my head) mesh goggles don't meet this rating.

Many of us use quality bbs but it's not policied although it should be. So you run the risk of being shot with shitty bbs
