Need help regarding stripped allen screw, nineball front end, hicapa, stupidity.

SO,
I think I screwed myself pretty bad with this one. no pun intended...
I stripped the bottom allen screw (the largest screw visible in this picture) and now the screw head is no longer hexagonal, but...circular. I used the correct sized allen head, but due to the nature of the design the screw is EXTREMELY hard to turn once a few shots are fired and the screw sits into the thread. I evidently used too much force and destroyed the head.



Now my question is. Any ideas on how to remove it without destroying the rather expensive front end? So far I've put gorilla glue between the allen key and screw and left it for two days while it expanded. However the screw just didnt have enough shape left to hold and alas, nothing.

Get a Dremel with one of the small diamond point carving bits, something like:



And carve notches on either side of the head. Then use an a flat head screwdriver to remove the screw.


edit: btw, slice downwards while carving, rather than outwards, if you want to avoid damaging the rail.

I would opt for a screw extractor. They should have those at CanTire.

Your second problem will be trying to find a replacement screw in the right size that will fit... metric isn't a common size in North America, albeit, easier to find in Canada than in the US.

I've had good experience using a torx screw driver or allen key on strippen hex bolts. The extra point of the torx grab onto the edges of the stripped screw/bolt. Go slow so you don't strip the torx.

Same. In some cases, I've just taken an oversized torx bit with sharp edges and hammered it in to the hole to really bite in.

thanks for the help guys I'm gonna give the screw extracter a shot. If not I'll try to find a torx bit that size. And then last I'll brave the dremel haha. I'm decent with a dremel but I REALLY dont want to screw up as i've done some pretty stupid things with dremels XD

I would guess that the screw is M3x8mm....

Go to any hobbyshop, HPI use hex hardware in metrics for all the cars. Really not hard to find a replacement.
