Vest for sniper

I'm looking for a new vest and I want something light to wear under my ghillie suit. I want something MOLLE, not a chest ring with built-in pouch. Also, I can't afford 2 vests, so I need something I can use with my M4 too.

Its not MOLLE... But,

When I had the idea of making a ghillie/AR DMR kit, i was actually considoring using a chinese CHICOM vest. The reasoning behind that is that it can sit very high up on your chest, so you can comfortably lay prone without the protrusion of magazines digging into your middle. Its also very small, low profile, so it can easily fit under a ghillie without getting tangled.

if stretched with a block, it can fit up to 6 STANAG magazines. Just fill the bottom of the magazine pouches with tissue or something so you dont loose the magazines in the vest as its designed for AK mags.

You can usually buy these things for as little as 10 dollars per vest, even if you're still after something MOLLE they're worth the buy.

I was checking out that article and the website, some nice looking gear, I especially like how the sniper rig can be intergrated into their PC's. But the Sniper rig looks like a nice compact design, and is abviously liked by the SF Sniper community.

A tactical tailor 2 piece MAV... You can just detach the front buckles and lay down, and do them back up when you're getting ready to move again. Very comfortable.

Really, any split front Load bearing belt/webbing is perfect. Many real Canadian snipers use the same set up.

It's a "Build it As You Like It" Modular Vest System. Currently used by ANZAC Special Forces and is pretty damn nice.

They're a good company with top notch customer service. Costs are relatively cheap and you can buy more pieces later on down the line to make different vests out of one single system. They ship out of Kentucky, so shipping costs are nominal. Gear quality is high end. Plus it's completely modular so you can mix and match to the loadout you need based on what role you're filling that day.

Whatever you chose, it has to be able to attach pouches on the sides. As your front space should be as "clean" as possible to allow you to lay prone and crawl easely. If the vest separate at the front, it's a huge plus.

I'd propose that you skip any sort of chest rig at all....and skip as much molle as possible to keep it light.

If you're crawling/creeping I'd think that you'd want as smooth and snag free front as possible.

Consider a belt rig that has a couple of pouches.

Or...there's lots of references where guys turn a flight suit inside out (or relocate the pockets to the insides)...shoe glue on some tougher material to the knees/chest/forearms...and use the now-internal pockets to hold mags/maps/etc. They'd cut out the back of the suit and sew in a breathable mesh.

But you need to carry water, food, side arm and it's ammo. Map, compass, knife and hide building tool. Your fannypack must be huge.

I had two actually and a hydration pack. Shoulda added that second part...
But yeah, i had 500 count bottle of .28-.36g bbs along with 3 mags+1 in the gun, never required a sidearm... had multi tool, and then i always carried protein/granola bars as well.

Right side was non essential to the game, IMO, (food, multitool, etc) left side was ammo, and essential things. That way I could keep my dominant hand on the rifle at all times if i needed to reload.
